Kind of a rant, but not a Haven type.
What is wrong with people that they dont understand/care(?) about how their actions impact on others... I'm not usually this judgemental, generally I try to consider unknowns of someones reasons for acting like an ass, but this behavior is something I'm seeing everywhere, garden parties going on till the wee hours, customers invading the personal space of grocery shopping click and collect employees, parents and kids knocking my door looking for the kids football, again...

How have such levels of idiocy become so common...

It seems to happen more and more often in a number of situations.

For some reason, some people seem to think that following safety rules is not for them. For that matter, many people feel entitled to break any rule anywhere as not applying to them.

It may be that we hear about more of these idiotic behaviors because of the instantaneous 24/7 news cycle and social media. Many incidents as you relate would have been local stories only in a weekly neighborhood paper.

What does aggravate me is the expense and personal safety of the rescuers that people take for granted will help them. Rescuers can risk their lives to save someone who never should have been in that position in the first place.

People who take boats into white water or into open water without a life jacket. People who walk up mountains in the Adirondaks without a map, without proper clothing, get lost and want to be rescued. Some of them never do get rescued and their bodies are found years later by hikers. But the money and lives at risk are still spent looking for them.

Except on our Wrong Planet, of course ^ .

Maybe I'm a Karen but if I saw kids piled into one house against orders, I'd be reporting the parents.

Around these parts involving the law is generally not the done thing, unless someone is in immediate danger.
It's a "troubles" legacy issue, but for good or bad these communities choose a more self policing approach.

50 miles away it would be a different mindset and I'd call the guards in a heartbeat.

These excerpts are from a newspaper article I read a while ago. They list some of the reasons given by members of the great British public for calling the police on the 999 emergency number:

# "There's a ghost in my house. Can your officers exorcize the property?"

# "My dog is mating - what should I do?"

# "My husband hasn't given me any money."

# "I'm stuck in a traffic jam. What's going on?"

I also remember reading about an elderly lady who called the Fire Brigade to rescue a snail on her kitchen wall.

Lol yes I remember a similar list one of the emergency call centre staff went through on a reality emergency/paramedics show.

Ah bless, she taught they would rescue a snail, that is, in its own way sweet ...
I dont know why I'm taken aback by people being people.

I think it's difficult to see people I know from acquaintances and neighbour's to relations behaving like they dont understand or care why we have to keep doing the right thing.

Things are a hell of a lot worse than that here in the United Police States Of America. Some things are still in lockdown & people are risking spreading the virus by publicly protesting. & the police are violating personal safety by using tactics like rubber bullets & tear gas to break the protests up. I'm seriously starting to believe I'm actually literally from another planet. I sooooooooooooo want to get the hell off this one.

More 911 madness from around the Internet...

• A drunk called to report she was being harassed. Truth was she was being arrested for throwing pizza at people.

• A woman called for an ambulance because she opened a package from Amazon at home and she was afraid that that her kid was about to have a major allergic reaction ... to the Styrofoam packing "peanuts".

• A man picked at a wart, and called 911 because it had started to bleed.

• A woman call 911 to say there was two guys dress in blue trying to break into her house.  They turned out to be gas company employees (a trainer and a trainee) reading her gas meter.

• Entitled rich brat demanding an officer drive her back home after she spent her travel money partying, because she believed that since her daddy was a "higher taxpayer" she should get a free ride whenever she needed one.

• A woman called 911 to complain that her McDonald's triple thick milkshake wasn’t thick enough.

A couple of years ago our local morning TV news reported that someone the night before had called the police because they had "ships" in their yards. Their house had just been surrounded by "ships". When the police got there the person was ok, but the cops didn't find any "ships".

On World's Dumbest a drunk guy called 911 because he was wanting a ride to the store so he could buy more beer.

I remember reading that the singer George Jones's wife (Tammy Wynette) confiscated his car keys so that he couldn't drive to the liquor store, so he made his way there on his motorized lawnmower.

I try not to make fun of people's stupidity but.. Some people are really not using the brain and average intelligence that they have been blessed with. Lots of people are in the streets with their children here too
