I've never seen it, but is it like the new "vines"? I found some vines to be funny.

Everything you do on TikTok is owned by the Chinese government.

TikTok is a Chinese company, and is thus subject to the Chinese government when it comes to information-sharing. Same reason you don't want Huawei to be the ones installing 5G masts, no matter how cheaply they offer to do it. Then there's stuff like this:

Quote:
Data transfer class action lawsuit

In November 2019, a class action lawsuit was filed in California that alleged that TikTok transferred personally-identifiable information of U.S. persons to servers located in China owned by Tencent and Alibaba.[167][168][169] The lawsuit also accuses ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, of taking user content without their permission. The plaintiff of the lawsuit is college study Misty Hong. Hong downloaded the app but claimed she never created an account. She realized a few months later that TikTok has created an account for her using her information (such as biometric) and made a summary of her information. The lawsuit revealed that information was sent to a tech giant in China called Baidu.[170]

Well, China is also disturbingly keen on things like facial recognition software, so if your face is in there somewhere they probably have it stored in a database somewhere. I couldn't tell you what for, but I know I'd be more comfortable if they didn't have my face on file.

Didn't TikTok filter out videos from ugly, poor or disabled users ?

Yes they did and they instructed moderators to scan uploads for cracked walls and “disreputable decorations” in users’ own homes — then to effectively punish these poorer TikTok users by artificially narrowing their audiences.
