My wife has noticed that I’m doing a lot more tapping than normal these days ( I’m
Uber anxious ) .... she says I kinda zone out and tap wonderful rhythms ..

I’m don’t recall the rhythms afterwards.. but I do them when I’m deep in thought ..

Does anyone else do this ???

Thank you !

Your tapping may be a form of stimming for you. Anxiety & stress can make stimming worse. My dad stims by tapping. He's not on the spectrum but he has ADD or at least some characteristics of it. Some of his tapping is done while listening to music but not always. I stim but not by tapping. I usually play with things in my hand. Is your wife annoyed by your tapping :?:

She finds it fascinating if only due to the complex rhythms I come up with ..

I have no recollection seconds later and couldn’t replicate the rhythms if you paid me

Personally, I have a tendency to tap my foot on the ground repeatedly when I'm focusing. I don't always realise that I'm doing it. Additionally, I drum on my desk when I'm bored but usually not in any particular rhythm (or maybe I do, I'm usually somewhat zoned out when that happens). I've been known to kick the wall whilst thinking. Long periods of sitting tend to get to me. I find that taking a break to walk around can help since that's often when all my ideas start flowing. Sometimes when I'm stuck, I lie on my bed with a piece of string or a pencil and I fidget with it. Or I have my miniature basketball and I mindlessly toss it back and forth between my hands. I clear my mind and talk out loud about my ideas. Then once things are starting to click together I write them down.

Interesting..

I wondered at first if I was ‘thinking’ whilst tapping but I think I maybe just zoning out for 10 or 20 seconds whilst tapping - probably due to worrying about the virus and now the flaming protests and possible riots here in the uk
