I am questioning my in laws conservatism

They have always voted republican but here are the reasons why I question them being conservative.

They don't like Trump and won't vote for him this year. They will vote blue this time for the first time ever

They are not racist

They don't dislike immigration

They are against how the illegal immigrants are being treated and their children

They are not white supremacists

They are not homophobic

They are not all anti welfare. After all they are disabled and poor and on social security. They have been poor their whole lives but worked their asses off to support their kids and they had two special needs kids, my husband and my SIL.


How can they still be a conservative? Perhaps there needs to be another label for them since humans have evolved and the definition of conservatism had changed so they no longer fit it. Maybe a independent would be a better word.
