Should public restrooms do away with paper towels and toilet paper and instead all have hand dryers and bidets? I have heard that it is better for the environment.

Converting them all to bidets would only work in a society where bidets are already common.

When I go to Turkey bidets are the norm, there is no toilet paper you just dip your butt in a mini bath then clean it with soap and it's much cleaner. It feels so much better after too.

Frankly we're pretty disgusting in the west that we don't even have bidets. I think it's more that a lot don't even know how to use them over here too.

I've never seen a bidet before. And I don't think I would want to keep washing my bum every time I use a public restroom. What would you dry your bum with?

The built-in blow dryer, I'd hope.

When I've gone abroad there's usually paper towels available in like nature areas, but if you're in a hotel there's usually towels available next to the bidet. It's literally just to dry your arse after you've cleaned it.

Like wiping with toilet paper isn't actually that clean cause where's the soap and cleaning part? You're not actually cleaning the area you're just wiping the s**t off it and it's still dirty.

My husband had a bidet installed in our cottage and I've never looked back cause it's just waaaay cleaner and fresher.

Blow dryers for hands (and automatic flushing toilets) are often a nightmare scenario for parents trying to navigate restrooms with small children. I hate the noise myself.

Every toilet I ever went to in Turkey was either the same as in the west or it was a hole in the ground with other females in the same room and no cubicles or toilet seats.

Which is gross btw.

Yes, and let's introduce the shells from Demolition Man.

Dunno what part of Turkey you were in cause it's an insanely huge country but I'm talking about the modern parts like Bebek where all the yachts are next to Istanbul. There's a bidet at the side of the toilet normally.

Although, apparently it is actually better to use the squat toilets as the western ones aren't natural and cause pressure.

I've used squat toilets before and never saw a problem with them long as there's a bidet nearby, it's just cause we're not used to it in our culture but it works fine.

When I was in India, the custom was to eat with your right hand and wash your ass with the left, using a small water jug called a lota. There was also hand sanitizer, but very little water. The sewage systems couldn't cope with paper. I soon got used to it. Hot-air hand dryers, OTOH, are known to blow a lot of nasty bacteria. I just dry my hands on my clothes.

From where I came from...
... This whole discussion is weird.

I'm not talking about the topic itself, but because I came from a place where using tissues to do business with isn't the norm.

Otherwise, people here will do fine with a bucket and a large scoop to use the water with -- if they just cannot install any bidets.
