Doesn't that mean he just sprayed a bunch of extra oil onto the chicken just to get some lemon flavouring? lol

The purpose of PAM and similar cooking sprays of other brands is to keep food from sticking to the pan.

Of course, but the chicken is already cooked and in the pan when he's spraying it. I was making fun of commercial logic since it looks like he did that and then immediately served it.

Pam is just butter turned to particles so you can spray it on a pan. So you can lubricate the pan so the food doesnt stick.

You can melt a stick of butter into the pan to do the same thing. And the butter in the stick is the same darn thing as the butter aersolized in the spray. So both can put on food that you're cooking.

I’d forgotten about Pam! Don’t think we ever had it lemon-flavoured in Aus. There’s actually a massive range of Pam sprays ... who knew? In Aus, we had Pure n Simple ...

We still have Pam in NYC.

In 1974, Kellogg's Sugar Frosted Flakes (yes, it was "sugar," then) had a "Tiger of the Year" contest where the winner won $5.00 a week allowance for a whole year. That was a big deal then.

^^$5.00 a week back then would have been a small fortune to a child! I’m glad they brought back collectibles/toys in cereal for children when Monsters Inc came out. Nice that a new generation could experience that too. I remember the special collectible stickers in egg cartons and educational cards you’d find in Weet Bix in Aus. That seems to have died out nowadays.

They’re finally putting a drive-inn in England for the first time this Summer! Love anything retro!

Do you remember "Wacky Packages"? I used to think they were so cool!

They started in the 70s, and were still popular in the 80s.

Don’t think they had those in Aus. Looked them up as I thought they were a packet I used to occasionally get from this amazing school shop that had every lolly(sweet/candy) imaginable. Walking in there was like entering WonkaLand! lol These rectangular packages were filled with things like a collectible funny “Confucious Says ...” card, bubble gum, a lady finger with a red painted nail, stickers, that kind of thing.

Wacky Packages look like what Marks & Spencer(the grocery store over here) brought out pre covid. They brought out what they sell in miniature collectible form eg their famous percy pigs, a miniature M&S OJ etc. They even brought out mini M & S shopping trolleys to place the items in. I have a small collection.

Collecting stickers as a child used to be popular. I still have my collection with MASH stickers, Aussie Radio Station Stickers ... Humphrey Bear lol No Romper Room ones though!

Yes, the commercial is not really logical. He sprayed the Pam after the food was already cooked. In reality the Pam gets sprayed before the food is cooked so the food doesn't stick to the pan.

Not sure what he did. But he must have sprayed it on the chicken itself, but before it was cooked. Just like you dip chicken into melted butter before you whatever (bake it, or fry it) . Like you, I normally think of Pam as a pan lubricant that you spray on the pan to keep the chicken from sticking. But I suppose that you COULD use it that other way- as batter on the chicken itself. Like spray paint the raw chicken with Pam before you fry the chicken. But this vintage TV spot you posted from the past is the first time that I have ever heard of Pam being used that way.
