I was sitting with this women a few weeks ago at the pub called Bev

Someone who knew bev came up to our table and she asked Beverley “is this one of your boys then?” (Referring to me)

What do you think she might have meant by “is this one of your boys then?”

Probably nothing. She was most likely just making a casual greeting. Maybe she wondered if you were her boyfriend maybe not. How did Bev respond should give a clue?

I wouldn’t go out with her in a million years lol. She’s like 30 years my senior.

Lol, Bev sounds like an older woman name. I immediately thought they meant, "Is this one of your sons."

If they really knew her, they would know who her sons were, maybe she thought you were her latest boytoy, and maybe shes got a promiscuous reputation as a cradlesnatcher.

No, my parent's colleagues see them everyday and know they have daughters, but haven't met us. I could imagine them seeing one of my parents with a younger woman and asking, "is this one of your girls?"

With no context, my assumption would be that she was asking if you were the woman's son.

If that woman had a reputation for dating younger men, then maybe there's another interpretation.

The first( more mundane) is the most likely. The age spread is right -so that a person who (a) knew her well enough to hear her talk about having two sons, but (b) had never met either of her sons, might think that you were mother and son.
