I too have noticed many Aspies appear androgenous, and not just physically. I suspect there is less sexual dimorphism among autistic individuals, which is an overarching reason for their relative lack of progency. Unknown.

However, I am an enigma in that I am very physically feminine - extremely so, in fact. I wear make-up, jewelry, love 'girly' clothes, etc. Plus, my features are overtly feminine. I am considered very pretty by outsiders. And I am definitely heterosexual with a healthy sex drive.

But, my mind, cognitively, is very analytical. As is my writing style (and handwriting!).....often when another whom I have never met reads my work (writing, formulating, art, etc) they'll just 'naturally' say, "He says......" Very strange! For acquaintances, co-workers, etc I tend to prefer men (with some exceptions). At the risk of seeming sexist, men truly do think more analytically. I am likewise. I am mechanically inclined too.

I think you're observation has merit and is not new either - there is a higher propensity for homosexuality and asexuality among the autistic population. There is a sexual correlation, but the overlap is murky.

I am fairly androgynous, physically and mentally. I can only speak for myself, I don't know about this being a common trait in aspies. I appear younger than I am (and I don't tan at all, I burn, I have very fair skin). I like accesories and make-up. I fuss with scents, soaps and hair products. I mix and match men's clothes and women's. Then again, I'm very gay.

Sorry, I don't fit this budding stereotype (negative example).

But I am a sample set of exactly 1. I don't know enough aspies to comment on anyone other than myself; not sure I'd know one if I saw one anyway.

Good fortune,

Sometimes I look very very feminine, other times almos masculine, and a few times people have mistook me for a guy, but that's because I was wearing boyish clothes and my hair was chopped off. :)

I don't look very masculine facial-wise. I look normalish/femininish. But body-wise I am muscular. I look like a man with lots of muscle and energy, but without hair. Probably because of the Euroasian ancestry. I hear Asians have little body hair. Same with most of the guys in my family.

They will know by my clothes that I am a man...

Edit: going by the picture threads... there are very few aspies that appear androgynous. The female aspies here are visions of femininity...

I think we aspies tend to think we're all alike. But in reality, we're more like human beings rather than "aspies." You know, in general.

Only one I'd call androgynous was the daughter of Angie Dickenson, the actress. I'm not androgynous, the other aspie I know is not either, and neither are the appearances of WP members with photos I've seen so far.. So that is like 1 being androgynous out of the 100 aspies I've seen. In my opinion, the answer is no, aspies do NOT typically have a propensity for being androgynous.

call me crazy but I think I recall that word in biology, I thought it mean a tendance to produce male offspring, not appear to look like a male?

Anyways, im skinny, tall but definatly look and act like a man.

LOL. You're right, the term we're using is a mispelling of "androgynous".

I sort of look androgynous. I have a very masculine jawline and legs but the rest of me looks mostly feminine. I have a distinct "hourglass" figure that is not usually found in men, even very thin ones. I also have very thin arms and delicate hands. My fingernails on my right hand are grown out for playing classical guitar, which adds to my overall femininity.

Not sure if it's a good thing, though. Most people don't go for that sort of look.

I look very androgynous. I have typical female body but have a male face. I've seen a number of female AS who look androg, though all of the guys look very much masculine which would make sense with Aspies having high testosterone levels. Yeah some of the pictures on WP of the females are quite feminine, but no AS woman I have met in real life looks the least bit feminine.

My face is masculine (mostly because of the beard I guess) but my body sorta feminine, and I identify more with feminity when it comes to personality.

I am a man, but if I would shave and start wearing women's clothes I could make anyone believe I'm a woman. I wouldn't even need makeup. 8O

My Mum and I believe that I was destined, genetically, to be male, but during fusion, the chromosomes did not agree so well.
