i love it. sometimes i get a little cray and pretend im in a movie and the answer is just behind that locked box i have. this means that indian in the cupboard is one of my favorite movies because that cupboard rules. the lock rules, the noise it makes unlocking it rules. everything about it, rules. Old prison locks are probably the best to mess around with but i can tell you that sometimes i play with padlocks

what are your favorite things about locking/unlocking?

I have a collection of locks and keys and have always been fascinated how they work. I have gone as far as cutting them apart to see the innards. I also went threw a phase where I practiced picking them with some success. I also just like the sound they make opening and closing and will sit while watching TV clicking away much to everybody else's dismay.

I could pick center spaced tubular locks fairly rapidly with a tool I had. But I traded it for some bullets with another guy who was obsessed with guns and locksmithing (nearly 15 years ago).

The masterlock combination lock has some lame algorithm and there is a formula to open them in less than a hundred tries. I confirmed it on some I had(that you can hand feel and find the numbers you need for the forumla).

I've taking kwikset locks apart and changed pins and alter keys with hand files to change the key. I understand the theory of picking a kiwikset lock but I never tried.

I've always loved keys and locks. They were the first things I ever collected as a kid.

Locks and keys were my grandson's favorite things when he was 2 to 3 years old. He was fascinated by them and knew what every key in the house was for. I bought him a toy that was a wooden box with six doors that each had a key lock and its own key. Animals were inside each of the doors. Then I started buying him padlocks and he loved them. He knew which key went to which lock just by looking at them. We have a box full of old keys and sets of keys on keychains. That was his favorite thing to play with when he was a baby. Now he has lost that interest and plays with his PSP constantly. But he still likes to start up my husband's truck with the key my husband had made for him. Only when we are with him of course. He's only five.

Used to play with them alot as a kid...I'll still pick one up and unlock and lock it over and over again until I drive those around me nuts...if someone is foolish enough to leave one on the table in front of me.

I love those old railroad locks...my dad did too...some are really cool.

I went through a phase where i was fascinated with locks, lockpicking, and safecracking.... i even ordered a bunch of old combination locks off Ebay so I could practice opening them without the combinations... then i lost interest, and the locks are now sitting in a drawer somewhere... yet another hobby i started but never finished

I would be interested in locks only for urban exploration purposes, and competition, which I've really missed out on in my life. I do love the challenge of breaching security. I love guessing people's passwords (not here-- I swear!). Once at a hostel when people's things started getting stolen, I had a sudden inspiration and stuck my key into two people's locks, and theirs popped open. The people at the desk later talked about putting a warning on the vending machine where the cheap padlocks were sold. There are only so many models of keys and locks for all those cheap padlock brands. Combination locks seem more reliable. I think lock-picking would be a cool hobby to take up; if there were any competitions in my area.

I loved collecting keys and having locks, i had an old toolbox where when I was little everything important to me would be in and id lock it up with a paddlelock.

NO COMBINATION LOCK HERE!!

I liked locking up everything, I even was able to pick the lock on an old chest at my grandparents house after being taught how to pick, i was 10.
