I don't get why so many people are like, "women shouldn't be into video games/playing sports/becoming a doctor/becoming a police officer/becoming a chef (outside a household kitchen)/driving/voting/going out in public without a male escort", but then they're like, "Since you're so liberal, then go shovel the driveway" or "get a job as a garbage collector."

So it's only when it's something you don't want to do that it's equal rights? :?

I don’t get how sunburnt flamingoes can balance on a nightstand.

Or, why I can’t chew wheat and swing a demijohn all day.

I do get sensitive to personal attacks, but not things in general. For example I have to use a sign at work that says "Men At Work" on, even though I'm a woman. I could get all political and have a hissy fit and claim the company is sexist and that I should feel valued as a woman in today's world, but...I don't. It's just not important to me.
However, I get sensitive to someone bullying me, because, well, it's personal and I have social anxiety and RSD. Not if they are making jokes about my gender or skin colour though. Just if it's related to me as a person, not a group I belong to.

There's a difference between personal respect and political correctness. Yes I'm probably a snowflake then when it comes to being too sensitive but I still don't give in to political correctness crap.
You can even make a joke about me being in a relationship with a 60-year-old if you like.

It's a reflection of entitlement.
They deserve everything they value.
They view others as less deserving, so no matter what they expect the other to accept whatever is left. Bah, you don't want this scrap, take this other one instead.

The other will have equal access, this is going to reduce my share/access/control somehow.

Fragility makes it difficult to express criticism when harms aren't so much malicious so much as ignorant.

I'm not meaning to call anyone out personally, they're just providing a case study of a much broader trend.

I don't get how to have constructive dialogue when the criticism is so harmful to the recipient's ego that they can't stand to hear it.

A lot of x recoil from criticism from y. This might even go broader than power dynamics, it's just that power dynamics sometimes allow for retaliation or at least more sympathy when it occurs.

Everyone's a glass cannon, too few people are tanks. :nerdy:

I see tons of emails & ads wanting me to donate money to various nonprofit groups that are fighting to protect or expand government funding for various programs. Why would people donate so the nonprofits can fight for increased government funding for programs instead of donating to be directly used by those program's budgets :?: If I had money to donate to expand Social Security, I would want to donate directly to the Social Security program instead or having to deal with the middlemen groups that would do who knows what with said money.

Sometimes when I lie it's because others actually tend to believe my lies easier than when I tell the truth. Perhaps it has something to do with my nonverbal body language or others sometimes refuse to listen to the truth if it's something they do not want to hear or believe :? I'm not really sure

^ I can relate to not being believed. Sadly, it's pretty common for us autistics to experience that.

It's also something that's been mentioned in the good practice guide for mental health professionals (found on https://www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/ne ... -therapies).

People who claim to want a fresh start but then proceed to go to war.

Thanks, the same to you

That's how decent people should behave. I think the problem is that social media has allowed everyone to sit anonymously behind their keyboards and type awful things. So other people have fought against them, and they fight back so it's a constant ding dong battle of fighting.

The human race needs to calm down and try to get along with each other again. When I was little, my socialist parents had conservative friends. They didn't get into arguments, they just didn't talk about politics for the sake of getting along well and having fun social events. They talked politics when they went to political meetings. There's a time and a place for things.
