You forgot "aluminum".

Not sure about everything on your list though.

"Scones"? The Brits are the ONLY people in the Universe who ever utter that word. So how can they be wrong in how they say it? Lol!

We americans have a completely different word for what the Brits call "scones".

I didn't add aluminium bc it's a different spelling. Then, scones... I've heard more than 1 person saying "SKONS" as opposed to "SKOWNS" like it's said over here.

Some Brits (with the same regional accent as me) say "scones", others say "scons". It's pronounced SCONES! Rhymes with STONES!

I have scones and they're called scones.
Only pretentious people or wannabes call them scons.

Considering all of the other metals end with -ium, I'm pretty Brits are the ones spelling and pronouncing it correctly.

In my hometown, we called them scon's (like con) and anyone who said scones with the e pronounced was considered posh. Then I moved to another part of the country and people turned around and said 'No it's said like cone! What are you, posh?' I - we considered you lot posh! You think we're the posh ones? Interesting. There's no winning.

Sometimes I like switching between the two just to cause war on both sides. 8)

However, I do find that with certain words I just switch pronunciations regularly without really meaning to do so. My parents have different accents from each other. I grew up in one area for sixteen years and then moved to another area. So I'm not always consistent. Whenever I visit my Grandma I end up reverting back to my original accent and people can tell whenever I've visited her recently.

I agree with the "proper" spelling of aluminium (and maths) they just make the most sense.

I will, also, concede some of the words MAY have been spoken by someone with a different accent from British, like Irish or Scottish, but that's a slim possibility/only on a few. Also, also, some of them I cannot for the life of me remember how it was pronounced, like "proletariat"

How do Brits pronounce the other words on the list?

In the US there is divide between the literate and the illiterate when saying "Byzantine".

The educated say "biz-AN-TEEN". The illiterate say "uhhhhh....BUY...uhhhh...ZAN-teen".

If you want to nitpick, Scottish and Welsh accents are families of British accents, alongside English accents.

Scots pronounce their rs, English don't (they also invent rs that don't exist), that's why the rally commentator always calls it a Fahd rally cah instead of a Ford rally car, or Per-geow instead of Pew-geow.
