I went for a blood test in the afternoon. When I arrived they asked when and what I last ate. I had absolutely no idea. I wasn't even sure if I'd eaten all day, what time I woke up, if I grabbed a piece of toast in the morning, or anything. My days blur together since I'm home all the time. I know I didn't cook a breakfast like eggs, but I could have grazed on something absent-mindedly? They looked at me like I was crazy for not knowing, and must have asked me two or three times if I had breakfast or lunch. I don't call my food breakfast or lunch. I eat if I'm hungry. I blanked but finally just lied and said I ate around 10 and had a crumpet. lol --

Then they asked if I'd had coffee or tea. By then I wanted to burst into tears because JFC, I don't remember.

I hadn't planned on going for a blood test so I wasn't consciously paying attention to what I'd eaten, and I didn't need to fast, so I didn't expect this interrogation.

Is this normal? Would you know? Maybe it's my ADHD or maybe I do things on autopilot without thinking.

idk

Seems normal to me.

The only time I freakishly blanked out was when I forgot my own name, DOB, everything.
Luckily, I had an envelope on me addressed to myself.

What if the non-crumpet discrepancy throws off my entire lab result? 8O

Maybe it allows for the odd bit of crumpet.

ive always had memory issues. though when my thyroid stopped functioning and i did not realize it i got to the point of forgetting whole people and parts of my life. its more normal now (for me anyway) thanks to getting treated for the thyroid problem.

i think its important if you notice your memory is getting especially bad to get it checked out. dont let it get as bad as i did before you do something.

as peeps age ... anti cholinergenic (most available antihistamines) over the counter meds , attack memory .
There are only a few allergy meds ( antihistamines) that should be used . And there are some normal prescriptions that create issues too. This is not meant to change the idea of getting your thyroid chequed if you have symptoms.
Of course high stress level could alway contibute.
JUST a FYI.

I don't take antihistamines. Actually I've had one in my life.
I just had bloodwork yesterday and TSH was fine.
Maybe it's one of my other meds, but tbh I've always been like this.
I can remember random stuff from a long time ago, but my breakfast?
Nope - that's irrelevant so I don't file it anywhere in my brain.

I switched meds.
Fingers crossed I'll remember which one to take.

These issues were noticed by myself in my late teens ..and long before i knew much about nutrition and was young mid - teens and thought little about experimenting with my nutrition. And read a book called "life extension"by Dr. Dirk Peirson and Dr Shaw ... in which they had been using chemicals and supplements that were safe in certain amounts. ....
rather high , i thought ? but non the less , went forward with attempts at long term memory enhancements. :ninja:
The main result , i found was the best supplement that gave me good results . Was Lecithin in 80 gram amounts daily approx. ( 3 table spoons) After three weeks Noticed that I recalled things better . Have been playing with
nootropics ever since . (Per advise by a chiropractor that seemed experienced with Aspies , she highly recomended
a supplement called NAC ). Which I think helps acethylcholine in the brain , which is what Lecithin breaks down to in the human body, This is what the brain uses for long term storage ( per all my reading on that). By no means is this all that there is to nootropics . Lotsa mushroom extracts do this too.As well as other supplements. It has been a fun special interest over the period of my life .( Warning:Hard to overdose using food type supplement ) [only bad experience was using Gotu Kola and large dose lecithin, resulting in headache ] Best wishes for you alls Memories :D

I thought memory issues were a common part of ASD. The psychologist who did my assessment tolf me that I could have a good memory for things that interest me (and I've observed that I don't get to choose what interests me).

Doctors and doctor-stuff do not interest me, so...

I try to take written notes when I go to a doctor appointment because I will forget stuff. I ask my medical providers to give me everything in writing because I will forget stuff.

I have some medications I am supposed to take every day. I keep them on my dresser...in one location if I have not taken them, yet, and in a different location if I've already taken them. It's a good thing I do that because I can't remember if I've taken the pills after just walking across the room. And I tell my doctors I need pills that I can take once a day, in the morning...because that is the only way to be sure I will see the bottles on the dresser to remind me to take the pills.

On the other hand, get into something I'm interested in and my memory gets much, much better!

I one time didn't remember when my mom had to administer my Ambien for me because I was taking too much. It was literally a month later that my mom asked if I remembered it and I said I didn't. I think this was due to depression. It's funny I remember it now years later, but I didn't remember it then
