The Star Trek guy? Day-ta.

Data entry? Either dat-a Or day-ta used interchangeably. I don’t think I consciously choose one or the other and I’m pretty sure I’ve used both and never given it a second thought about either sounding weird.

Day-ta with a "ta" rather than a "da" at the end.

Day-ta.

I have been told this is not British, but is instead American. I don't know how true that is.

I am British, so apparently I am speaking like a yank.

I got it turned around Your right.
"Data" is the whole body of the information you gathered.

A "datum" is one of the 'data points'.

A datum would be the response of Joe Blow on Maple St. Anytown USA who who told your poll taker that "Yes. I believe the Earth is flat".

And the "data" gathered from the thousands of folks across the land you group interviewed might show that "62 percent of the American people believe the that the earth is flat...with a thick pizza crust around it".

I always say Day-ta for both unless I'm trying to sound funny or weird

You have it backwards.

"Datum" is singular, while "Data" is plural.
