I want to go and personally strangle the chairman of Weight Watchers - I tried their food once because I went to someone's house and the mother there is a weight-obsessed person who doesn't realise that exercise is key in weight loss, and has probably ruined her metabolism for the rest of her life - her house was full of Weight Watchers. Are those products designed to taste like nothing?

I only drink diet soda because of my bad reactions to too much sugar at once, but otherwise I go for full-fat products all the time and I actively shun the low-fat products.

I remember going to Boots once because I was starving and I wanted a sandwich. I looked everywhere for a decent sandwich. IT WAS ALL LOW-FAT. THE YOGURTS WERE LOW-FAT. IT WAS HELL. I walked straight out and went to Sainsbury's, where I got myself a NORMAL BLT.

Besides, I wouldn't eat too many diet foods myself... Stuffed with chemicals and I would loose a kilogram a week what with my exercise level.

I can kind of relate as I was picky growing up. Now I enjoy food much more (still dont like to cook though).

When I was a kid I only enjoyed a few really simple basic foods (mainly macaroni and cheese, plain hamburgers, chicken, cheese pizza, etc.). When my parents made something like a casserole or veggie dish I would eat enough to please my parents and prevent my stomach from growling all night. I was forced to take at least a few bites of each item. It wasn’t that I hated the food, I just didn’t like it enough to enjoy eating it. If I didn’t like what was served, it was a chore to eat.

Now that I’m older I’m much more inclined to try different foods. However, it’s funny that I still dislike most of the foods I was exposed to as a kid. My childhood food preferences are still deeply ingrained. Like when I go to a Mexican restaurant I only get plain cheese quesadillas (without guacamole and other stuff) or nachos. But when I go to an ethnic restaurant that I wasn’t exposed to as a kid (e.g. Mediterranean, Indian or Thai) I try a lots of different things. I really like spicy Indian or Thai food that has lots of stuff in it that I can’t even identify, but please don’t put anything but cheese and tomato sauce on my pizza! Is anyone else like this?

i cant differentiate between 'good food' and 'great food'. some people may say the fish in this restaurant is better than the fish in that restaurant but they taste the same to me.

in fact, all cooked fish taste the same to me. any difference in taste is because of the difference in sauce. lobster, shrimp and crab also taste the same to me.

I get quite similar to you, although I can taste different fruits.
I find eating is only useful as a relief for hunger.
I often lose weight (sometimes more than a kilogram at a time) because I am hyperkinetic and I do long-distance running, but forget to eat, or I just don't like the action of eating when I'm not hungry.

My Mum is really helpful in that we only drink whole milk and bread with loads of nuts in it (and we never buy diet foods, except sugar-free things, which is because of me lol) etc... so that I can get the right amount of energy without actually needing to eat "more".

I've always enjoyed eating food. I was a fat child growing up. I'm not fat anymore (6ft 170lbs), but I do love to indulge myself with whatever when I can. I try to eat healthy 90% of the time, but I do like splurging. I'm a sucker for all you can eat pizza or Chinese in town. Cheap but decent food. Anything high sugar is good too. I try to limit eating every three to four hours, since I'm normaly hungry all the time. ^^;; A lot of times I know it is out of boredom, so I keep unhealthy foods out of cabinets and only have them when I'm out. Since I don't drive it further prevents me from having anything unnecassry. I cook for the most part, but I like eating out at good resturant now and then.

So yeah, I like to eat.

I lost 2kg in two weeks recently. Now I have to just randomly eat. I was already underweight before I lost that weight. S**t. I take the attitude now that if I am offered food, I eat it. My Mum is also helping me. The thing is, is that I can regain the weight, only to probably end up losing it again because I lose the motivation and energy that I need to eat enough.

What are you talking about??? 8O Food is there not only to feed us, but also exists as a form of pleasure, absolutely. My mother is French, and boy can she cook amazing dishes: saute'd veal in a cognac truffle sauce with a side of wild mushroom ravioli, flourless individual chocolate cake with pistacchio ice cream, vichyssoise, etc... And, by the way, my mom is tall and thin, so it's not like you're gorging yourself her, you're enjoying a sensory experience... To say that food is there just to feed you is like saying your place exists only to shelter you. It denies the basic human desire for self expression and creativity. I'm vegan, so it's a bit of a challenge for me to feed myself, but I manage to make tasty and healthy organic dishes.

Ah...Food...

I have never had any issues in the realm of food. I love to eat (I eat too much) and I also love to cook. In fact, I worked for several months as a sous chef. Sadly, the job didn't work out. I learnt an awful lot though.

Generally, I eat three times a day. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. I also have tea and a snack between 4 and 5 of an evening. I'm not much on coffee but I love tea. Can't stand tea bags, always have to brew the tea in a pot. I purchased a Brown Betty from England and I love it!

Breakfast is usually consists of rolls or toast with jam/marmalade/Marmite, hard boiled egg, ham or Canadian bacon and a piece of fruit. I'm not a big fan of cereal so I rarely have it.

Lunch is usually a sandwich with crisps (chips), fruit or salad. Although lately, I have been having left-overs from a previous nights dinner.

Dinner is usually some type of meat and some veg, one of which is usually some type of potato. I usually make an ethnic type dinner once or twice a week as well.

On Sunday I either bake a chicken dinner or make a roast beef dinner.

I usually eat out or get take away once a week. More often than not I get Chinese as I can get two or three meals out of my order. This depends on my budget however. I used to frequent a chippy , owned and operated by a man from Manchester, England. I liked fish and chips with a side of mushy peas. I usually had a can of Ribena Sparkle to drink. Sadly he closed a few years ago. Nice chap!

Things I don't particularly care for....

1- Tinned (canned) soup. Too salty.
2- Peppers (green/Bell Peppers) Plain Nasty
3- Sesame seed Plain Nasty
4- Frozen French Beans (Green Beans) Too rubbery
5- Diet Foods Tastes like cardboard box or air
6- Margarine
7- Onion on Pizza Too stringy and strong tasting

Zelasyma, like you I don't care much for overly processed foods. I too finally tossed my microwave in to the skip (dumpster). I always though microwaves did weird things too food. Turns out I was right!

IronMaiden...You went to Boots to purchase a sandwich? Somehow, a chemist wouldn't be my first choice unless it was late night and everything else was closed. They tend more toward the healthy. As you discovered, Sainsbury was a better choice.

Anyway, I am struggling with weight right now. I am extremely over weight and am developing breathing problems from this. This started after I was put on two new medications three months ago. I was somewhat overweight prior to this but was successfully loosing. I told the GP about the weight gain, but he simply instructed me to loose weight. He didn't wish to change the medication at this point. I just don't have the self discipline for this at the moment.

I just finally got off a major fizzy drink (soda) addiction. I got hooked on Coca-Cola, not for the caffeine but the taste. Nonetheless, that got me hooked on the caffeine as well. I got to the point I was literally drinking 6-10 cans a day some times. I started to suffer from stomach acid issues and heartburn as result, so I had to stop. Now, I can't hardly stand fizzy drinks. I had one last night (the first in awhile), I drink a few sips and dumped it out! Yuk!

The above issue and the previous weigh loss attempt took all my mental energy in this regard for the time being. I am about out of sweets, so when they are gone, that is it!

Enough of my dissertation on food!

Your location says Indiana...yes you are British? That is what I ascertain from your word use, anyway, being British myself.

Anyway, my relationship with food is uneasy as I was anorexic on and off for 10 years, weighing only 5 stones(70ibs) at one time...and I am tall at 5'10 so that was pretty dire. I am a normal weight now but do not like being a normal weight. I liked being thin, but I also love food, especially anything sweet or creamy. I cannot buy chocolate without eating the whole lot, if it is milk chocolate. I have gotten into the bad habit of having a piece of cake every time I am out...which is daily. I am trying to break that and buy diet cake from Asda. I like food, but I am not someone who can stay thin no matter what. I never go above a uk size 12, no matter what I eat, but to me, that is bad. I prefer to be a size 10 or 8 here in the uk (us 6 I believe) which means I simply cannot afford to eat all I wish to.

I am lucky though in that I love vegetables. Not so keen on fruit. And I don't eat any flesh anymore. I do not eat pizza, burgers or anything like that either so it is the sweet stuff is my main issue.

Diet chocolate mousse is my current food fad... had it every night now for about 8 months.
