Why we have leap years.

The reason that we have leap years is because otherwise the seasons would start drifting. Eventually North America would have Christmas in the summer and Australia would have Christmas in the winter if it weren't for leap years.

That seems fair. The Aussies should get a turn at winter Christmas now and then.
