When I went to a car boot sale, someone was selling a Sabaru Impreza
I is faster then most cars new and old, reliable and solid. The owner had to sell
it because he needed a more practical car for his family. The car was in good condition
with all the service done. All for £600. I just had to tell the guy he was selling it too cheaply.
I would have bought it, but my mumy said is no good for carboot sales as the Boot is just to small, unlike hatchback cars.

If that's how you behave then IMO you shouldn't be anywhere near driving a car.

That looks like a lovely motor but I have to say fast cars are not very practicle.

But then who cares

Except your mother,

It is an unfortunate fact in this case but I can say from all my experience "Mother knows best!"

White vans are a lot cheaper more practical and can be fun :)

Was there something wrong with it? Or was it a sport? £600 is too cheap! I used to have a Series Mcrae a little while back :) I miss it. Some Imprezas, especially the 1998 year are prone to having a problem with the pistons. If you hear a pronounced knock at about 1000-1500rpm then walk away, its called piston knock or slap, it can be fixed but its expensive.

I dont know how to persuade your mum other than building up trust with her...

I might be weird but beyond my personality, my lifestyle is quite normal and healthy with no unhealthy addictions.

In regards to driving, I am quite sensible in a healthy but not obsessive sort of way. Occasionally I like to race one of my workmates down the road for a tiny distance. And sometime I like to chase cats up the road. I would never run them over because I love animals. You don’t know what I would do to keep a cat outside of a microwave oven.

looks liek a ncie car there aspie_chav, seems seller may not be aware of the car's blue book value and just thought of just a fast way to get rid of it. liek anything get as much detail as you can and if possible (if mum will allow) take for a short test drive with her in car.

http://www.kbb.com/kbb/default.aspx?tri ... OAodjF3SDw

my feelings as to why mum just dont want you to have the car

1. she may think cool or sports car or fast car= showoff who is up to no good and acting as if they are playing need for speed racing type games

2. gas economy?? maybe these cars guzzle gas and hence cost more.

3. maybe she thinks something suspicious becuase of its low price

4. afraid it would get stolen and you being very upset

5. maybe trunk(boot) room is just too small and feels that you would have to rely on her to take big things around for you or she might think you will bum (beg) her for her car when you find or have to transport something bigger then room in back allows for

6. insurance may be a bit high for these type of cars for your area??

7. if this was intended to be your first set of wheels, she may be scared that you might lose control easier (sportscars handle differantly from other types of vehicles) maybe she thinks the first set of wheels should be something that it wont break the bank if it gets into a wreck

8. maybe she thinks high speed=may be deadly in a crash. because of less safety protection and that newer cars (maybe this car as well) dont have crumple zones or stong materials for frame and firewall(part between you and engine)

maybe one day you can sit down and talk to her saying that you would not make her pay for it or buy you parts or gas or maintenance, that you want to be more independant.

also try to tell her that you promise (even if it ends in a signed agreement) not to be a show off and that you will be a responsible law obaying driver

also reserach safety reviews and reports for this car to see what safety measues it has and see if theres any common problems with this make (subaru impreza

try not to nag or beg, cause that might just blow off her decision on the car.

good luck

It doesn't look like there is a thing wrong with Chav's behavior, and he showed proper consideration for the owner and for his mother. She objected because there wasn't enough room to sell stuff out of the back of the car. Since that was what the car was for, that was the end of the matter.

From the context I gather that a "car boot sale" is where people get together and sell stuff out of the back of whatever vehicle they are driving. It is absolutely necessary to have enough space to carry enough merchandise to make some money.

A £600 Impreza is either f****d or stolen.

Either way the initial cost would be nothing compared to the problems thereafter. Your Mum was wise to discourage you. Especially if, as I suspect, the vendor was having a clear-out prior to "moving abroad" - a convenient excuse to disappear from contact the moment anything goes wrong.

On a more general note, you look quite young, which means that the insurance will probably be scarily expensive too. When I was 22 I bought an Alfa 33 for £900 - it was a 1.7 cloverleaf 8-valver. Not a suspicious price for a 33 - they were troublesome cars to maintain and depreciated very rapidly - but the £1,200 per annum insurance, third party only, was quite a shock!

So the older a country is, the worse the insurance companies are about screwing the customers?

They're great cars (though largely driven by Investment Bankers having mid-life crises, I've noticed) but a Scooby for £600 spells T R O U B L E.

It's either broken or stolen or both.

Avoid.

That's what I'm thinking. The police may take it away and he'd will be minus £600
