Fire alarms scared me too, and I think they still do! Every school I went to had different fire alarms. Both schools I went to in upstate New York were school-bell like alarms and had white strobe lights. But other schools I went to had buzzers or sirens. Two of the schools I went to had the alarms sound through the P.A. system, which scared me more than the more traditional fire alarms that you can see hanging from the walls and ceilings. But most every school I went to, and my family constantly moved due to my stepfather being military, had different looking and different sounding fire alarms and when I would go to a new school, i would wonder what its fire alarms sounded like and I was really nervous about the fire alarms in my last high school! There they had both the obvious fire alarms with strobes plus an alarm that sounded through the P.A. system, although the fire alarm that sounded through the P.A. system didn't always activate but the obvious alarms always did.
And I've been through some real fires in a few schools although a couple were just smoke, no flames. But someone started fires in two of the schools I went to and one person set off a smoke bomb and that caused the fire alarm to go off! Sometimes the fire alarms went off twice in one day.
But I would get jumpy whenever a fire alarm went off and they made me feel uneasy!
Here's a fanfic about an autistic Arthur character scared to go to school because of fire drills. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10507182/1 ... ire-Alarms
