So I came across a clip of the A&E TV show called Hoarders that presents people who accumulate piles of stuff that fills their home. I find this interesting since I don't like clutter. I'll let stuff like dishes, various paperwork and trash pile up some. Just basically a bit of a mess and then clean it up. But I rarely buy or collect stuff to add to what I already have.

Anyone here a "packrat"? Or are you the opposite?

I am.

Both from collecting and from poor executive function making it hard to stay on top of mess and clutter.

I'm pretty much incapable of throwing things out. I hate clutter but I've gotten used to living in it because I can't get rid of it.

I do collect a lot of stuff but most of it is decorative, so I at least can keep that stuff organized because otherwise there'd be no point.

I used to be till I started running out of space. Now I daren't hoard any more and I'm gradually removing the stuff I can't justify keeping. But it's hard for me to get rid of things. I'm risk averse, up to a point, and if I can see the faintest chance I'll want something in the future, I'm very reluctant to throw it out. And there's a sense of trashing my history.

I suppose I'm being logical. I don't need the space for anything else, so why not keep my hoard? After all, it's better than regretting it and having to shell out good money a second time for the same thing or whatever upgraded muck they've superceded it with.

It's a different matter in the USA where I'm in a tiny apartment. I don't need much stuff there and it hasn't had enough time to overwhelm me yet. But it's creeping up on me and there are already things I'll probably never want but probably doesn't cut it when it comes to trashing things.

Yup , had that pretty bad...it doesnt look so bad if you organise it :D . But am a bit of a type of inventor decorator for myself, Halloween stuff almost buried me once. So I can put very dissimiliar things together or bits and pieces of all of them. Security through things , I used to think made sense. But Then older age started creeping up .
And you start to realize , too much stuff can be a disadvantage.. Took along time to pare down my stuff. Had to give up most all of Halloween stuff  ..And health issues started to want catch up as well. But life goes on.

I hoard some stuff because I am a prepper. I dont have much space for my hoarding at my parent's house so I will have to wait until i am out of the house till I can get as much stuff as I want for prepping. I also dont like throwing stuff away but I am nowhere near as bad as the people on that show.

I don't hoard much because I don't have attachment to physical things. I try to keep only the necessities.

Computer files is a whole different story though.

I don't like to hoard either but my daughter does so I'm never gonna achieve the minimalist look I'd love
