This is a clip for Helen from Australia. I think I may have insulted you because you thought I said your younger son has bad handwriting. I want to make you happier. This clip will make you wish you lived here in America.

Hello Jason,

I am not insulted that you said he had bad handwriting.

I was disappointed by some of the responses on the thread being a loving, protective parent.

However I realise that not everyone would have known he is only 7, or known the background.

UbbyUbbyUbby writing the shopping list is a huge breakthrough. He has been incredibly resistant to handwriting because he is aware of how messy it is compared to his peers.

He has also been extremely resistant in trying to spell words independently.

In the past few months, he would have screamed/cried at his messy handwriting + inability to correctly spell every word.

The fact that he wanted to write the list and did not want any help with the spelling was a major breakthrough. I think his spelling attempts are excellent and show he is understanding phonetics.

Our husband and I + UbbyUbbyUbby's teachers have been so excited.

Everytime I look at the shopping list I feel proud and overjoyed.

It shows all the accomodations he is getting at school + changes we have made at home due to the excellent work of our psychologist, teaching staff at school and us as parents.

Thankyou for the clip. I won't be able to watch it yet because we are on dial-up. I will watch it at my parents this weekend.

Thanks again, and I certainly am not upset or sulking!

Regards
Helen

P.S. I was nearly having a nervous breakdown when I couldn't get onto WP - I love this website!

Messy handwriting really does not matter with computers around.

I was really pleased with the school - they have not been bothered by his messy writing. His teacher keeps saying, 'It doesn't matter. Everybody uses computers these days anyway.'

And he is a bean - he is so cute!

he looks that way from his avatar
a friendly little guy
no doubt he'd laugh at my "funny accent"
(I'm sure all your kids would) ;)

He is very friendly and laughing all the time now. He is so different from last year when he was stressed and miserable.

They would attempt to imitate your accent.

Got to go now .... cooking biscuits with the 4 year old.

Helen, lol, I didn't realize it was a little boy who wrote that shopping list; I thought it was someone with dysgraphia or something so was teasing them about it. :D

That's even more of a reason not to tease them

Oh, Helen! It is great American news indeed!

Hint: Larry Emdur is probably hanging his head now that he's on "The Morning Show."
