I'm going on a cruise to baja on moday for 5 days. Its exciting and i'm sure i'll have fun but i'm thinking it might be hard for me to be around that many people stuck on a ship. Other than drinking my fair share I was hoping I could get some ideas on ways to make it more fun for an aspie.

This is a long shot, but anyone?

I usually enjoy talking to strangers - I can manage one good short conversation with a stranger but struggle with a second, third etc as it is hard to remember who they are and what was said previously.
It is likely there will be such a large body of people on the cruise that you could find at least one new person to talk to each day. You could make a mini-project of finding one person a day with an interesting story.
I hope you have a really good time!

When I went, it was nice to find a spot on the deck that was quiet - the pool and some other areas are noisy, but some areas were not so crowded and the people that were there were reading books or just staring at the sky. The clothing-optional area was usually empty.

The shows were not worth it on the boat I was in. The sales meetings disguised as events were total crap. The food was good, very good, or excellent.

We went to Bahamas and did research ahead of time to find a nature guide - didn't want just the touristy things that you book from the boat (we did a little of that, not much). 3 people were on the tour, so it was individualized ... we told the guide ahead of time what types of things we wanted to see, and got to see it. One other person on the tour was interested in bird watching, so there was bird-watching too.

When the boat docked in Nassau, and we walked into town, the first 3 blocks were terrible. There were tons of people who came up trying to sell stuff - time-shares, tours, meals, etc. It was very annoying. If you encounter that, just keep walking, try to smile and say no, thanks.

Be ready to just relax and soak up the sun. Take stuff to read or knit or whatever. I took a digital camera that I could bury my face in, frame my perspective with a zoom.

Can you get an internet signal on a cruise ship? Probably. Anyway, if you have a lap top, take it along. If things get rough, you can always pop into WP and let us know how you're doing. Or when you stop at a port, visit an internet cafe. And even if you can't get on line, just enjoy yourself and remember how fortunate you are to be able to do something like this. Bon Voyage.

I used to work on a ship (the longest single stretch was 5 weeks).

I used to spend lots of time alone in my cabin to get some down time.

When you are feeling like a change of scenery but still want to be alone it is good to just stroll the decks, find a nice quiet spot and gaze out to sea for an hour or two.

This works very well if you have a good view of the wake because watching that can be very relaxing and hypnotic.

No! NO!! !!

They had internet on the ship I went on, but you had to pay by the minute at their cafe. Unplug yourself! Break out of the day to day mold and learn to think on your own!! Put your cell phone away, leave the computer behind.

It helped keep me sane when I went on vacation in the Dominican Republic for a week. Plus, I was able to keep on top of how things were going at home with the kids. But I would agree with you, that it would be best to free one's self of phones and clocks. The hotel did charge exorbitant rates by the minute, but I had the option of paying for hours instead and that was a whole lot cheaper. I don't do sports, and there's only so much eating and beaching and socializing I can take and then I need a little refuge. A young person, however, might be a different story.

That sounds fun. We could have a big computer lab, gaming center, and NTs can be the staff.

Also, a nude beach actually sounds fun but i'm too self conscious for that.
