Several months ago, let's say three or four, it occurred to me that when I fold my hands, something I've been doing the bulk of my 65 years, I fold them the same way. The thumb on top has always been my left thumb. Growing up and especially in school, and while I was in meetings when I worked, I would fold my hands so they did not fidget. I also found folding my hands comforting in meetings.

So the point is three or four months ago I switched things around. Placing my right thumb on top. It was an interesting, new sensation. I also started thinking about how one fold one's hand and if it related to which hand/arm was dominant. I'm right handed. Did all right handed people fold their hands with the left thumb on top?

So I'm conducting a pole.

If you are not sure what I mean by folding ones hands, that is when the thumbs and fingers are interlocked, alternating left and right thumbs and fingers. I am open to the idea that this is not referred to as "folding" one's hand everywhere in the world.

Thank you for your consideration. :)

Yeah my right thumb goes on top
It's feels a bit odd the other way round but I might practice doing it to see what happens

My vote is~ I fold my hands with the right thumb on top, and I am right handed. However I sometimes have my left thumb on top but it's not as often.

My left thumb is always on top and I'm left-handed.

It does feel weird! I found this to be the case at first as well.
I often fold my hands when I go to bed, sleeping on my side, I sometimes don't know what to do with hands and arms. Folding my hands help. It was while doing this one night, I thought of switching things around. It helped me relax. It still feels different, but I do not dislike the sensation.

Thank you EVERYONE that has responded. This is something I am genuinely curious about.

If you're interested, there's this:

https://udel.edu/~mcdonald/mythhandclasp.html

But they don't cover the left-right handedness thing, they're more interested in whether or not it's genetic.

With me it's the right thumb and I'm right-handed, and it's a fairly strong unconscious preference. Though I don't fold my hands very often. I'm probably more likely to interlace my fingers if I want to keep my hands still, or just put them in my pockets, though people used to say that was rude. It doesn't offend me to see it though.

It has always been an unconscious thing with me as well. The handedness thing came to mind because although I am right handed, I do a few things left handed. Shooting a bow and arrow for instance.

Thank you, again.

-- after reading The Myths of Human Genetics webpage --

That was very interesting. I notice there is an article about how one folds their arms. I had not thought of that, and switching felt very unnatural. (I'm a left arm on top).
I believe I first started folding my hands in kindergarten. Before playtime, we had to settle down and sit quietly with our hands fold on the table. The order one would be released to select a toy and play was determined by how fast one could settle down, be quiet, and stay still. I only was selected first once, and I really wanted to select the train track. The train set was almost always one the first to be picked. I was dreadful student.
