I have been collecting Star Wars Toys since I was 5-1/2 years old. My basement is overrun. Here are pictures from half of my basement.

Pretty much! My son is OCD about Star Wars and has quite a collection of his own...supplied by daddy. Combined we have over 70 lightsabers we do battle with, including the Master Replicas Force F/X versions.

do your kids want to take them out of the box and play with them?

Of course, but some things are not to be opened. I actually buy duplicates of all of the figures, so I have one to keep and one to open.

I never really understood the collectors mentality... why have stuff if you never plan on using it?

Do you have any possible explanation?

That is a mighty impressive collection though sir... even if I don't understand the whys... I can appreciate the whats and hows of something so massive...

I don't consider the stuff unused. Some of it is opened and played with. Plus, I have a plan when I retire to build miniature movie sets and use the toys in the scenes. I am still in the process of setting up my collection. Once done, it will be something I can enjoy by coming down and gazing onto it. Plus, my kids and their cousins look in awe. I have 22 sets of shelves set up, but still have stuff left in boxes. I haven't even displayed my sports figure collection, most of which is in the Van Lines boxes Picture #2 and Picture #3. My Simpsons figures are in the blue plastic containers. Those are opened, since they talk. Picture #5 shows the plastic drawer containers filled with the opened figures that my son and I play with. The smaller boxes in Picture #7 are actual Hasbro cases, each filled with 12-16 figures each and they are two rows deep and three rows across. Those are the MOMC figures.

The explanation is that I love Star Wars. It was very influential on my as a small child and I played with the toys and kept them from 1977 on. Plus, George Lucas needs more money, so I like to make my weekly contributions to help him out.
