How prepared are you for disasters?

Before my depression I was always mentally prepared. Now that my anti-ds are working on me I'm getting that way again, yay!


I plan to get:


Fire safety gear:

Fire extinguishers for all classes of fires



Flood safety and coping gear:

Inflatable life raft with built-in inflation pump and foam floaty things inside it as backup, the boat should also have oars attached to it
Water de-salter and filter
Life vests
Wetsuits and drysuits
Sailing boots/reef runners


Biological hazard gear:

Plastic sheeting to cut into sizes slightly larger than the average door and set of double doors, largest window, etc, with the name of the opening it's supposed to cover written on it
Tons of duct tape to tape the sheeting over the openings
Biosuits


Get-out-of-where-you're-trapped gear:
Axe
Shovel
Saw
Every other tool that's ever been invented
Flare gun and flares
Cell phone with digital video camera-- even cell phones with no service still dial 9-1-1 when you dial 9-1-1



Famine supplies: seeds for all kinds of fruits and vegetables (I should start buying fruit and vegetables and saving the seeds), nonperishable foods


Tornado/hurricane supplies:
Car (to get away)... LOL!

Chemical attack protection:
Antidotes for commonest poisons that have antidote

Darkness survival:
Candles
Matches
Lighters
Flashlights
Batteries for the flashlights

Delf-defence: We need tons of guns and ammo! Also for food cuz eventually we'll need meat if the disaster is long-term!


Other:
Fully-equipped first aid kit
Compass
Windup radio
Windup clock
Swiss Army knife with the most extensions


I know I must have missed some stuff... I need to go back to ready.gov!


I don't have any of this stuff yet but plan to get it all!

The only disaster Im ever worried about is vandals and thieves, so the next time I move out Ill have to get creative.

I only have to worry about weather-related issues in my area. However, we haven't really gotten that this year. It's been sunny nearly the whole summer (Just ONE storm is all!). Last year, however, I spent day after day in the basement due to all the tornadoes and hailstorms we were getting...

only disater here is snow-and I am well prepaired for that mother f**ker

The worst things that can happen here are long term power outages during snow/ice, and branches or dead trees getting weighed down by ice and falling on something. Tornadoes happen very rarely (they were much more common in Florida). I think an earthquake may have happened around 200 years ago as well.

well since we really dont get natural disasters here, i havent done anything to prepare

Decent first aid kit
Radio with rechargable battery
Decent toolkit
20 Litres of water
Two torches
Enough canned and dry food to keep my girlfriend and I fed for 7 days
Cat food for 7 days
Two sleeping bags
One tent.

I have a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. That's about it. Where I live the only disaster that could likely happen is a flood, and I live on the third floor.

Oh, another thing I need is a parachute, and I should put drop ladders outside my windows!

What do you need a parachute for? Or do you live on a very high level? I thought parachutes only work when you're at least on the 20th floor or thereabouts.

I have band-aids around the house... does that count? lol. The only disasters I ever really run into are "owwies" with my 2 kiddos. I never have time to think about other things that might happen with them running around, lol... and half the time I don't even remember the things I need on a daily basis.

I need a parachute for in case I go on a plane.
