Cos that's where I'm going!

And alone....:|

I don't know it was just something I sporadically planned in doing but now that I think about it, I never actually travelled alone. Now I'm freakn' out about it. I feel that if I don't do it alone then I haven't really experienced or learned anything from my challenges.

Crap this is embarassing. Anyone else have this problem of dependency toward people?

I consider myself a loner but when it comes to unpredictable situations....I freak out!!

Sorry, but I pretty far away, plus I don't have any wheels right now anyhow. Are you planning to visit any place in particular, or are you going to "play it by ear", so to speak?

Playing it by ear. Not even sure if it's the exact place I want to go but I feel native to my own state so it was just a thought.

I never even seen that silly arch all the years I've lived here in Missouri.....

I saw a quiz show not too long ago that had a picture of that arch, and asked where it was from. I should've asked you, because I didn't know. Does it have a name?

I think it's just the arch.

Personally I like those little trips. On the train to Antwerp, other cities, and for example staying a night in a not too expensive hotel. Walking through the old city, ordering a coffee, sitting on an outside table, writing stuff down, visiting a museum, other things.
All alone and I enjoy myself.

What you say about unpredictable situations I know too but with a little planning and switching the button to careless mode. The 'I can't be bothered' mode and I'm fine.

And sure you can do it, MissC. Just do it, enjoy and don't give a toss about anything. You probably feel proud when being there. Or back home.

I think it's just the arch.

It's called officially the "Gateway Arch".

Have fun, but from what I've heard it's best to exercise a healthy amount of caution with St. Louis.

I know what you mean, MissConstrue. I am extremely unsure of myself in new situations. I hate not knowing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing and tend to panic and freeze up. But, even so, I was able to travel by myself once a month to see my long distance boyfriend. Plane flights and all. I was unsure the first time but I did it. It's scary but kind of exhilirating to know that you are capable of being on your own.

Actually, doing this is one of the things that really helped me to come out of my shell and handle life. I started having little conversations with random strangers for the first time ever and it wasn't as hard as I thought!

I'm still unsure in new situations, but learning that I can take care of myself and talk to people and ec was a great experience for me.

st. louis is not that bad of a city. it has it ghettos and dangerous parts of town, but all cities do. st. louis isn't as dangerous as our nations capital, but dc keeps the crime mostly in southeast. southeast dc is a great place to drive around in. you can drive past marion barry's ghetto mansion. he used to be mayor of dc, he was caught on video smoking crack. he's pretty cool. him and obama are buddies.

just go online and search for what parts of town are the bad parts. when you go to st. louis you could even drive through the ghetto, but most ghettos are pretty much the same.

Personally, I relish these situations. Not just as a loner, but because I like to figure things out on my own. Some of the most interesting excursions I have had were over in Europe where I didn't even know the local language. I am so used to being the outcast, I suppose this at least justifies it in a way so it makes some logical sense.

Good luck! You'll have fun. Just be smart and know your limitations.

yup...I've been to different countries by myself. Except for planes, trains, and automobiles, I go where I want, when I want, stay as long as I have money for...;) It can occasionally be lonely, but it depends on the situation.

Have fun, and good luck.

When I was about four my parents took me to the St. Louis Zoo. I still remember looking down into the alligator pit. Don't know if it is still there, but it definitely left a lasting impression on me.

If you're into art, the St. Louis Art Museum looks pretty good. In late Feb. they're having an exhibit on artworks from China's Ming Dynasty.
