Being on WP or online in general is one of many possible habits that are rewarding and/or pleasurable for some people. Anything can become an addiction, and the relationship to the thing (website, forum, doing searches or whatever) will likely vary over time, depending on what else is (or isn't) going on in one's life. Other things will crowd out visiting WP for awhile, or one gets bored & spends more time on WP because it seems there's nothing else to do (or that one wants to do).
Also, when people have first gotten dx, many of them tend to try making up for lost time by 'power-reading' as much info. as possible on this new concept/identity/framework. The plunge into cramming one's brain full of "what is this ?" & "is this me ?", the temporary (or more long-term) frenzy of information-seeking, working to integrate the old version/view of oneself with this additional material. Just mentioning it to distinguish the temporary obsession (that often happens as matter of course after someone's recently dx'd) from an ongoing fascination (that keeps going & going-not that there's anything wrong with that).
So, "is this place an addiction ?"-yes & no, it can be for some, may not be for others, changes over time-it all depends on myriad variables. Not a simple/absolute yes or no, in my opinion.
One can think of "what would I be doing if I weren't doing this (reading or writing on WP) ?" Alternative one would be doing may be something important (one's avoiding dealing w/that which needs dealing with, so being on WP to exclusion of other activities could be problematic) but it might be something worse (self-destructive & damaging, in which case it certainly seems that being on WP is a healthier & safer option). It's all relative, whether an "addiction" is harmful or helpful "habit" to have, for an individual in a particular context.
So.... Doctor Belfast, care to elaborate on that?
