I mean, besides just "Hi, nice day, isn't it?"

Once when I was little and called 9-1-1 as a prank and hung up and two officers came to the door, I just denied I had done it and got away with it...

When I ran away once (for a day) when I was 17 my mom called the cops, a policewoman came over to the house and asked her questions, asked if I was angry when I left, was apparently very open-minded and professional, looked impressed when my mom told her I was thinking of becoming a cop, asked if there was a picture of me, my mom couldn't find one, she saw my elementary school (grade 6) yearbook on my bedroom floor and said there might be a pic in there, also she caught sight of one in a box my mother was rummaging thru and said "There's one"... cops went to this poor-people's restaurant to look for me, the cops also called my mom back saying someone had called them and said that I had been doing research at TR Leger... I never met them.

Other than that I've had no contact with the police!

For the most part I've had just the "hi, nice day, isn't it?" experience with the cops with 2 exceptions.

Several months ago I was pulled over by a state trooper (they're jackasses in Texas) at 2 am on an interstate. He told me I was speeding because I was doing 68 at night. (In my part of Texas the roads have a 70 limit during the day and a 65 limit during the night). He had me alone at night and it quickly became apparent that he did not pull me over because of my speed. He was poking his flashlight through my car and sniffing, obviously looking for drugs. He never asked me to leave the car but he was asking me what I was doing out driving at 2 am. Obviously he realized that I had no drugs in my car. He then gave me a lecture about the night speed limit being 65, told me that "this time I'm going to let you off with a warning" and went back to his patrol car to write me a warning. He gave me the warning and then let me go. I'd never been pulled over before and I thought it was a rather pointless stop.

The other time was several years ago, I was about 12, and I'm glad I wasn't yet 18 for this. I had recently been diagnosed with AS. My parents decided to send me to some sort of summer camp for "special" kids that summer. It was not a good idea. There was one fat kid in particular that was toxic towards me during the whole camp. I don't remember exactly what he did but he did something to seriously piss me off. I charged him but was restrained by a male camp counselor (I was much smaller then than I am now). At this point in my life I had some serious rage issues. I somehow got a hold of some paint and found the house/cabin where this fat jerk slept. I painted "Free Willy" on the door (I think his name was Will). One of the camp counselors saw me paint the message on the door. She told me to clean it up or she would call the police. My response: I raised my middle finger and said "f**k you, b***h." and then started to walk away. She tried to physically force me to come back, that was a very bad idea on her part. The other male counselor had the strength to restrain me, she didn't, and I knocked her down and walked away. (I'm not proud of that). At this point they really did call the police. I was still furious and the policewoman actually had to handcuff me. The handcuffs were very uncomfortable and tight, and gave me sensory problems probably compounded by my AS. I was put in the back of the cruiser and it was very uncomfortale. They were going to take me to jail for the night! When the cruiser stopped I asked the police lady if she could loosen my handcuffs just a little bit. She wouldn't so I lost my temper again and started to cuss her out. That made the processing very ugly. I was put in a single holding cell in the police station for the night and my father came to pick me up the next day. My parents were furious at me, but somehow I did not have to do an additional stint in juvie hall for this. I suspect it might have been because the camp was out of state so maybe I couldn't be tried there. It was still bad, my parents were very angry with me for a long time.

I don't tend to say "hi, nice day, isn't it?" to any strangers let alone the police.

Why would I talk to someone I don't know who is just doing their job?

I know its supposed to be friendly to say those things and I am friendly ~ to my friends (all two of them) and to my colleagues, not to strangers.

I got a lift home once from a policeman - I didnt have very far to go but it was 5am and they stopped and offered me a lift. If it had been anywhere other than the UK I would have politely refused though.

In my experience, the police in the small town I live in are allright, however Olympia and Seattle (WA) cops are just downright vicious.

My dad used to be chief inspector before he commenced with his current job, so I've had contact with the police on a daily basis. 8)

Apart from that: I once pressed charges against my ex-girlfriend for - among other things - domestic violence. The whole thing wasn't a particularly pleasant experience but luckily the police were very friendly and forthcoming. Unfortunately the public prosecutor decided to drop the case because of lack of evidence, but that was only to be expected.

Another time I got a ticket for riding a bicycle without proper lighting while it was dark. When the traffic policeman had written down my particulars, he shook my hand and said that I was the first traffic offender in a long time who actually admitted that he was wrong and didn't come with all kinds of lame excuses. Unfortunately I had to walk all the way home...

Only one bad experience.
I powerslid my old Impreza off a roundabout for about 40 yds up a wet road, thought nobody was about. I then seen headlight in my rear view mirror but didnt think it was the police. I stupidly turned around to head back into town when I realised it was the police behind me after all, they had been watching me from a side street. On went the blue flashing lights and sirens as they pointed out their car at me to stop. I put the window down and the male policeman started shouting " THAT IS NOT HOW YOU DRIVE ON THESE ROADS!" I agreed with him. I knew the ball was at his foot, I was in the wrong and he knew that I knew it. Anyway, after a good talking down to, his radio went and he had to go to a more serious incident. He said I was away to get charged with Careless driving, but just got a caution instead.

My only dealings I have had with The Police is when I get my CD collection out and listen to my 'The Police' CD.

LOL, I lived in a small town for awhile and once I was sitting in the city hall skipping school waiting for the public library to open, and a cop came in as I was blowing my nose and said "Cold day out there, isn't it? Everybody seems to have a cold!"

And MrMacPhisto, you are hilarious!

Ive had a few run ins, I was pretty wild during my collage years:

I got pulled over for having 6 ppl packed into my small car that should only hold 4

I got pulled over 2 times for lights out (equipment violations)

I got arrested for DWI, BAC +.08, unauthorized use of a vehicle (i was moving the truck owned my Niagra Mohawk because it was on private proproty, yes, i was very drunk when I decided to do this and very stupid at this time in my life, i know...), and posession of marijuana all in 1 incident, 1 night.

Got another possession charge by campus police after running away when a party me and my roomate through got outa control, a fire was started and drunken fights broke out, i ran, but was so drunk I was caught anyways

I got arrested for assualt when me and my neghboor got into a fistfight and I won, I hurt him bad, and to this day regret it, however it was dropped because he admitted he hit me first.

I got in trouble for being parked in a school parking lot (very recently) on a sunday afternoon, I was going for a hike on the trail and was told I was tresspassing, but he let me go because I was cooperative

I got into trouble for walking around in public drunk and with an open container, he made me dump it out and because I was cooperative he let me go

Yes, this all occured during my collage years, many lessons learned, Im very ashaimed and embarressed for the way I acted, most of these times I was drunk, but I was always cooperative and answered all questions honestly. I have not been in trouble in a few years (except for warning). I think my desire to be accepted in collage led me to attend drinking parties and hanging with the wrong crowd (i wanted friends) got me into alot of trouble, but I only blaim myself. I dont think Im a bad person, im God fearing/loving person who wants to have a good life, and have changed my ways. The only reason I type this is cause I know ill probably be the only person here with the most serious offences. I dont want ppl here to think im criminal, or a drunk, or a bad person :( .

My last contact with the police was late last year. I'd rather not get too much into specifics, since it was kind of a stupid and embarrassing incident. But I ended up having a panic attack, being harshly interrogated for about an hour (because they wrongly believed I was lying), threatened with a charge of disorderly conduct, and losing my job. Even as bad of a day as it was, I'd like to think I learned a lot about how to handle police encounters (or rather, how NOT to handle them).

The cops peeked into my room and all the rooms of my house, and searched my sisters room after she attempted suicide. My older sister mind you.

18 Sep 2007, 3:40 pm

I have been pulled over five times and one time a cop drove up to my house when I was in high school. The first time it was because one of them was looking for an address and he drove up our driveway and saw it wasn't the right house and I happened to be outside dragging the trash to the burn pit to burn it and he asked me where the address was at and I told him he had to go further up the road past Foothills Dr. The second time, my neighbor's bike was stolen because he always left it along the side of the road on school days so someone basically thought it was abandonded so they had dumped it off in a random spot and drove off so they figured they would mind as well take it since someone threw it out so they took it with them and his mother called the police and reported it stolen. So the officer came up to our house questioning me about a missing bike and I didn't know how to handle the situation and I certianlly didn't want to talk to him because he was interupting what I was doing and he was taking too long so I had my little brother do it for me. They went in the garage and looking at the bikes we owned and he felt real nervous too.

The first time I got pulled over was on a Friday in September. It was after school and I thought I would go shopping instead looking in second hand stores seeing if they had Benny & Joon so I wouldn't have to rent it every Friday but none of them had it and this one store owner thought I took a video tape without paying for it, so he called the police and I was in a parking lot waiting to pull onto the highway and there was this police car with two officers in it and they looked at me and the one in the passneger seat pointed back and I pointed to myself and they kept pointing back so I figured they were talking to me and I didn't know what they were telling me to do so I pulled my car back for the heck of it. They pulled into the parking lot too and one of them got out and I rolled down my window and he said "You were on the wrong side of the road." I remember how clueless I was because I said, "I'm trying to get on the road." He said no I was on the wrong side of the road and I kept saying I wasn't on the road yet and am waiting to get on. Then I was told to step out of the car and the other got out of the police car and they asked for my ID and after looking at it, they tell me "Elizabeth (last name) you are under arrest for shoplifting a video tape" and they ask me to hold out my hands and they put cuffs on me and yes they do hurt but as long as I don't move my wrists too much, it doesn't hurt that bad. I told them I was scared and they said "Good, you should be." I was very confused that day and I thought someone was playing a trick on me and maybe those weren't real officers and it was all a prank. I realized it was all real when they took me to their car and put me in the backseat. They asked for my phone number and I give it to them and they call my parents and tell them I have been arrested and to coem get me at the station. I did cry and I was scared about being seen by other kids in town and having everyone find out I was arrested and everyone shuns me in school for the rest of the year and the year after that. I was taken to the station and to keep myself from looking bad, I start talking to them asking how long he has been an officer and if he has any kids. I can remember he tells me to hold up my arms so I did and he told me to hold them down lower, not above him so I have him put my arms down where he wants them and takes off the hand cuffs. He also tells me I was on the wrong side of the street and I told him I was not for the last time and he finally told me I was on the wrong side of the parking lot that is between the super market and the gas station which is the street and I said "I thought it was a parking lot" and I start saying how I was waiting to get out into the street but couldn't because of all the cars and he asks if I have a learning disability and I told him I wasn't sure but I do have Mrs. (last name) who is with me in every class and she helps me with my school work. My parents finally come in and I was surprised they weren't mad and they bring me home but my mother stays behind talking to the officers and she told them I have AS. They even had my car towed to a yard and my dad had to pay 80 bucks to get it out. My Dad had to give them permission to seach my car and my mother begged them to do it because I have OCD and I need my stuff so they did it.

The second time I was in another town leaving my doctor's appoinment and I wasn't paying attention how fast I was going and I check my speedomiter after I see a police car and bam, he slows down, turns around and goes after me and I pull over after he has the lights on. He asked for my lisence and insurence and I didn't know what that was and he told me it should be in the glove box so I open it up and give him all the papers that are in there and he looks through them and told me "I only need this, the rest of this you keep," and he shows me what he needs and gives meback the rest of the junk and I put it back in the glove box.
I wait five minutes while he is in his car and then he comesback giving me back my lisence and insurence and tells me what the speed limit is and drive safetly. No ticket.

The third time it was in June 2003. I was going to a movie with my pesky neighbor (the one whom had his bike stolen) and I stop at a stop sign but I didn't stop long enough and there were pedestrains and I didn't see them because I was too busy looking at a building and talking to him so the officer who saw me pulled out and went after me and I pulled over. He asks me if I know why I was pulled over and I say no because I swore I was going the speed limit and he told me I didn't stop and there were people and I told him I did stop. He said I was supposed to do a complete stop and I told him I did. He asks for my lisence and insurence so I give him those and he goes back to his car and then he writes me a ticket and tells me where to go on a certain date and time. We were late to the movie and because the auditorium was packed, we didn't get to sit together. My Dad paid the ticket of course and it was only 50 bucks.

The 4th time was on pesidents Day in 2006 and I was going with the flow of traffic. I wasn't watching my speed once again because there were cars in front of me so I was following them and I didn't know I had a officer behind me with the lights on. He followed me eight miles out of town and I happened to look in my side mirror and bam there he was with the lights and I pull over. He gets out and tells me it be safer if I pull over up there where the road is instead of being on the side of the road so I do that. I thought I had a tail light out or something when he pulled me over but no he said I was speeding. I told him I slowed down when I got to town when he told me he followed me through town. He asks for my insurence and lisence so I give him those and I listen to my music as he is in his car and then he gets out so I turn off my music since it was a Wee Sing tape I was listening too and that is something I do in private. He asks me my age and I tell him while I thought in my head "It's says right on my lisence you dumb officer." He even asks for my home address too and where I live. He gives me a ticket and tells me I have to be there on March 6th at 3 PM and the fine was 77 dollars. I asked him how long has he been following me and he says airport road. It's a good thing I have asked because when he told me he followed me through town, I took it literal because I thought he went after me right when i got to town and I would have pleaded not guilty to the judge but no Airport road is right when you leave town and I had sped up too soon so he went after me because I happened to be the last one in line when i went by him. If I would have stayed at 45mph he would have pulled the car over in front of me. My dad had to show me the road when we went through that town again to get to Missoula and he also showed me where city hall is on the map he printed off from the internet.

The last time I was pulled over was on June 27th 2006. I was coming home after dropping my boyfriend off at his friend's house because they were going camping and I wasn't paying attention once again to my speed and I see a police car so i check my speed and see I am going 50 so I slow down to 45 which was the speed limit and I look in my rare view mirror and see he didn't go after me but when I looked in my mirror again when I got close to my road I live on, he was right behind me with the lights so I pulled over. He asks for my lisence again and I see my insurence isn't in the car because my Dad had taken it out of there and I didn't even know it. He was going to give me a 200 dollar fine and another fine for going too fast but I started to cry and have anxiety because I had rent to pay and I couldn't fit it in my budget and it take me months to save up again. He kept saying I was going 58 instead of 53 so I kept arguing with hima nd he said "Hey if you're going to keep argueing with me, I will give you a ticket. I am being a nice guy." Then he told me to always keep my insurence with me so I come to my parents house and rant to them about it and that was when my dad told me he had taken it out because it was going to expire and I just yell at him because I was furious and told him he was very lucky I didn't get a ticket because if I had, I would have made him pay it since he was the one who took it out of my car without telling me. I even told him I don't like it when people take things out of my car or unless it's their item they left in there, then that be different. So I remembered that day to grab the new insurence card off their fridge for my car and put it in my glove box before I forgot again.

That was my experiance with the police. I haven't been pulled over since. I am now very careful when I drive. I check my speed often and look in my rareview mirror often whenever I see an officer on the road. I keep looking at them and the road until I see they haven't turned their car around or even pulled onto the road after me. I know you're supposed to look in your rare view mirror every 5 seconds but it doesn't occur to me when I am driving because I am not even thinking about it. I am thinking about what is going on in front of me so i forget about the mirrors. I only look in the mirror when I am stopping like when the light turns from green to yellow to make sure I have room to stop if there are cars behind me or if there is no cars behind me. I don't want them running into me because I slam on my breaks and they didn't have enough room to react to my action. I also use them when I want to swtich lanes and then I look behind my shoulder.

they pulled over next to me and my mates to find out why we were walking around in the middle of the night but drove off again after a few minutes ... it was a rather close call cus i was drunk and had done some minor stuff that it would have sucked to be picked up on ..... ive had another close call for drunk and disorderly but i got off cus they didn't spot me in a crowd so didn't actually talk to them

I've only been pulled over for speeding once. I was driving around Washington DC on a large 4 lane highway where everyone was going 65 even though the speed limit was 55. Anyways everyone suddenly slowed down to 55 and I thought it was just a traffic jam. I was kind of in a hurry so I got into the left lane and went around everyone. When I got to the front of the pack a car came whizzing up behind me and abruptly pulled up to my right side just as I was about to change lanes. It scared the bejesus out of me. 8O I thought it was just a jerky driver and I wanted to get out of the passing lane so I sped up to get around him. Then he put on his flashers and pulled me over.

He told me I was going 75 in a 55 but I complained and said I was originally only going 65 and only sped up to 75 because he whizzed up behind me and then wouldn't let me out of the passing lane. I couldn't tell that he was a cop car. I asked why he didn't put his lights on immediately when he started following me but he didn't respond. I guess he wanted to get beside me so he could guage my speed (I thought they had radar guns for that :?). It seemed more dangerous than my speeding what he did when he weaved around me so quickly. I almost changed lanes right into him.

Oh well. I noticed he only put 70 in a 55 on the citation and it was only $80.
