Iran's president will be addressing the UN as well as Columbia University where he will be grilled on such subjects as the holocaust, WMD and Israel. WHat do you think about this man and his supposed speach regarding lies potrayed about him by the US media?

Do you think Iran's nuclear program really is peaceful?

I don't.

I think diplomacy is a good thing and that him addressing the UN could possibly solve some issues. I also like that he was willing to accept the invitation to speak at the university and answer some very tough questions.

Im not sure what to think, and I cant wait to read how he responded to all the questions. Indeed, I have heard he said many horrible even insane stuff, he claims it may not be true. I think this may be a very positive thing, especally because apparently Iran closed its border with Iraq, obviously a sign to the world that they want to prove they are not aiding the sunni's.

I think its great he was willing to make such a speach, and I will not judge him until his speaking is complete, and no matter what ppl think, I beleive he does have a right to say publicly how he feels, without any media interference, and I hope that the students at least give him the respect any speaker should receive.

I beleive Iran is seeking to construct a nuclear program not only for energy needs but also for deterance.

I think he is a very smart man. I also think that, according to his rules and society, he may be thought of as a good man. But I also remember my experiences with Arab men in places like London and Morroco -- what we think of as lies in our society does not match what their society thinks of as lies -- for example:

You go to Morroco, and someone meets you as you get off the boat. They greet you, and take you for a tour of the area. Then they introduce you to their cousin who handles camel rides, their cousin at the restaurant, their cousin at the bazaar who tries to sell you wares. After a while, you finally realize that few of these "cousins" are actual cousins, as we think of in America. They are friends, acquaintances, business partners, but they are not real blood-relative COUSINS.

The same thing goes for telling the truth. If you watch interviews with Ahmadinejad, you almost have to admire how deftly he avoids answering the question, even very pointed, yes or no questions. His version of the truth, and our western society's version of the truth, are two different things. I cannot imagine being able to negotiate anything with this man.

If they get nukes, they can do f**k all with them. The only western target in range is Israel, and asides if they nuked them the US would nuke both Iran along with Mecca as retailiation.

Hmmm... im really hopeing for negotiations, I hope this can be positive. We shall have to wait and see. It seems he makes some positive moves, then does something negative to effect his image on the world scene. Kinda like North Korea, but id rather deal with Iran then the NKVD.

I am more afraid that the US has nuclear weapons, they are the only one so far to have used them aggressively

indeed, of course when u have a monopoly on such weapons their is no deturant. I think Iran should be allowed to have nuclear program for power generation, but no more nations should have nuclear weapons, and it would be nice to see a steady decrease of deployed nuclear weapons worldwide. Overall it is happening, tho proliferation has increased since the cold war ended, the NKVD and Iran are examples of this.

Do you think the US might go to nuclear war with Iran?

I hope not, but it might happen before the 2008 elections.

The US won't do anything to Iran until the military gets out of Iraq. Threatening to attack Iran would cause all the Shiites in Iraq to join the uprising against the US/coalition forces and the Shiite extremists would then gain complete control of the government in Iraq. This may happen anyways, but it will be a certainty if the US decides to attack another Muslim state.

As for Ahmadinejad, I think he's tow-faced. He acts civilized and diplomatic to make the US and UN look bad for the harsh words over nuclear weapons. When he's back in Iran talking to his own people he comes across as a real hardliner.

He's more of a problem for Iran itself than he is a threat to the US though IMO. He does not support freedom of thought/expression. He supports a hardline Islamic police state where people are arrested for expressing their own thoughts or criticizing religious leaders.

No! I do NOT think he should even be allowed in the US for any reason. If it were up to me we 'd be out of the UN and the UN building would be somewhere on the other side of the the atlantic.

The fellas got guts!
Imagine going to Pre-war Germany and warning the populous of Hitlers fascist plans.

Wont do any good though, once the ruling Elite do another 911 on you, (probably a dirty bomb) you will all be baying for the blood of Iranian farmers and school children, whilst Satan laughing spreads his wings.

Yes he should be allowed to make a speech. By having the audience grill him about his previous statements on Israel and his nukes we will show him that we are not afraid to back down on our support of our middle eastern allies and our policies regarding nuclear proliferation.
