Should I get MySpace?

I've been thinking, and I'm sick and tired of being the kid that no one knows. I've created a few phony profiles to look around, and I've discovered that there's a nice little Myspacian community among my school... I know a fair few people, like people I say hello to occasionally, and I was thinking maybe Myspace would be a good way to expand on that, they all have a profile. It goes against everything I stand for, joining such a BS website, but I'd really like to make some more friends. So, yeah, some opinions please! If you've had good or bad experiences with Myspace, I'd like to hear about them... please don't vote and not comment

I feel the same way you do! People are always telling me to get a myspace account - or friendster, etc. - but I never do because what's the point? Do the friendships really transfer from the internet to "real" life?

So I don't know what to tell you. But I think if the only reason NOT to is because you think myspace is BS, maybe get over your pride and go for it. I know what you're saying, though, I feel that way too...

Today I caved and joined Facebook! I didn't want to be that type of person, plus I don't have that many friends, LOL. I am always so shocked when people have 200 friends, which I know are not REALLY friends, but still. I can't think that big...

Anyway, I joined and actually it is a lot of fun. I really enjoyed setting up my page, etc. Plus I was able to contact a couple of old friends who I really miss! I never knew I could get in touch with them again, but I'm so happy I found a way.

So I recommend myspace or similar sites for getting in touch with old friends! I don't know about making new ones, though...

I refuse to join any of that nonsense. I have a pro account with Flickr but that's as far as I'll take this 'social networking' thing.

Probably not... it's generally more trouble than it's worth and your "friends" won't actually care about you at all. It's pretty much just a popularity contest to see who can whine the most.

I have one but mainly I use it as a sort of news aggregator to keep up on events, and occasionally post humorous or interesting things I find in the blog. There's a few cool people on there but you really have to look hard to find them.

For a place to write, get a domain and set up a blog that's not bound to their silly rules and censorship. If you want social networking, find some IRC channels relevant to your interests.

I have an account to keep in contact with my friends, and its also a good way to keep up to date with my favorite bands. Also, my profile just looks completely kickass.

I rarely use my myspace (I'm more of a facebook guy but w/e). But my myspace is the only contact I have with all my old friends and acquaintences from high school. So solely for that purpose, I'd say go get one in case you want to find out how an old friend is doing someday.

Then again, completely your call. I suppose it isn't necessary, but it certainly helps you stay in touch with people that you otherwise may not communicate well with in real life.

Ha, I cant catch a virus on myspace if I tried.
Maybe its just cause I got really good protection, but I have never heard of actually getting a virus from myspace. Maybe getting your account hacked, which has never happened to me, but viruses?

I myself hate MySpace greatly but this was for my own reasons.
I couldn't get anyone to add me and I just didn't like the layout or the fact that it was owned by fox.
I voted no because of all that but if you think it could help you socially then you can get one and delete it later.

I suppose I'll give it a go... I don't really have all that much to lose, I can say I'm just testing it out... and if it doesn't work out, I can just cancel the account.

A word to the wise: Don't put any factual information about yourself on MySpace. Pics are generally OK (as long as people don't photoshop them into hilarity) but using your real name, location, etc is just inviting trouble.

I must have really damn good protection, cause I am like the only guy who never gets any viruses.

myspace isn't gonna help you make friends.
