I just finished mowing my front yard... actually I also got some of the back done too.

I hate mowing for several reasons...
1. It's grass... it's a pernicious weed that has usurped the good sense of mankind and natural vegetation and our scarce water resources
2. I only do it to please the neighbors
3. The neighbors dogs like to use my grass as a potty
4. People's uncontrolled garbage gets blown into the yard
5. Smoker's toss their cigarette butts in the yard, on the sidewalk and on the street in front
6. I have to use a noisy polluting lawnmower to cut it all down
7. It's the rainy season and the grass will be growing fast and tall which makes it hard to mow seeing as how it stays wet most of the time.

I got so pissed at a neighbor lady once and her dog that keeps pooping in my yard, that I bagged a bunch of it up and took it to her house.
I rang the doorbell, but no one was home, so I just left it there.

I don't care for neighbors for other reasons as well...

A. Some of them are quite noisy, especially late at night (thankfully not where I live now, but used to live). I usually wait until I've had enough and head for their house to tell them to turn it down. By the time I reach that point, I don' t care if it's a bunch of tweakers living there... I hot and I'm gonna let them have it! If they don't turn it down, I call the police next.

B. Tweakers and alcoholics... fights, noisy trashed trucks and cars, parties until the morning, general rifraff coming and going, children not taken good care of and wandering around the area by themselves or crying while the parent yells at and threatens the kid(s). And I have not lived in a 'bad' area of town since the last time I was single. This happens everywhere now.

C. Dogs... barking... barking... BARKING...BARKING... ARRRRRRRGH! Oh, and the already mentioned crap in the yard.

D. Cats... digging up the flower beds and pooping in them... meowing... meowing... well, you get the idea, cat fights outside my windows at night.

E. Neighbors or their guests parking in front of my house where I usually park.

I'm tired... I don't want to think of any more right now :x

Actually I do want to say that I generally try to be a good neighbor... friendly, helpful. Heck, I even go out and introduce myself to new neighbors when I move in somewhere or we get a new neighbor.
I have had some really nice neighbors before also.

But in general... I prefer to live out in the country... and I will again someday!

I use a battery-powered lawn mower. Environ-mower, I believe it is called.

But as for not wanting Neighbours, well, "Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours...."

Oh crap, I've gone all soap opera.

Seriously though, sounds like you're having more problems than you should. And by 'tweakers', you mean freaks on ice or crystal meth, right?

The neighbourhood I currently live in is fairly decent. The only problem is that it is on a main road, but it is not that busy a road at night, so we can get to sleep at night.

I've been a city girl my whole life, but not by choice. I can't wait until I finish college and move out on my own, it will be in the countryside!

I wish you well!
I've lived quite a lot out in the country.
I miss it.

I have heard of those mowers. Trouble is, the grass around here is seriously wet all during the winter and it grows like crazy because of all the rain. Some yards, like the one I left my former wife with, even have standing water during the winter.

Yeah, tweakers are speed-freaks. In the house I shared with my wife, we had some living behind us... Sunday, 0630, grinder ripping along while they do bodywork on their truck. He was replacing a broken windshield (windscreen for you UK types  ), with plexi-glass and needed to trim around the opening on the body. I finally got tired of going over there and suggesting he stop that kind of s**t. I found out he was doing something illegal and turned him in. I think he knows it was me. I've seen him around town since he got out of jail (2yr sentence).

Seems like most of my problems with noise are not problems other people share.
My former wife used to sleep right through stuff that would keep me awake or wake me up from a dead sleep.
The noise thing is mostly my inability to tune stuff out. But sometimes it really is the neighbours being too loud and crazy. I know this because other neighbors confim it.

Good neighbors are a blessing.... that's true. That's why I always make an effort to introduce myself to them when I move in or they move into the area. Part of that just comes from my upbringing in West Texas. It was just what you did back then.

We need neighbors, they feed the cats when we are away.
