for it to be this dark outside. It's only 6:45 PM where I am now, and it's been dark as night outside for an hour! :(

I hate it when it gets this dark so early. Does anybody else here feel the same, or do you welcome the early night that comes with autumn?

I'm pretty much indifferent.

I do. Lately I have been getting depressed as soon as it grows dark outside. I think I might be suffering from S.A.D ( Seasonal Affective Disorder).

Ha! I can outdo you all. I live in Interior Alaska. Roughtly 5:41 hours of daylight.

hartzofspace - I do not at all have a problem with SAD, I am well acclimated to lack of daylight. But, many do suffer in AK and I know it can be hard. You can buy special lighting (full spectrum) just for SAD to attentuate your need to light. Light effects your circadian rthym, just like in plants. Also, many Alaskans say aromatherapy definitely helps. Plus, certain medical insurance plans will (partly) offset the cost of SAD lighting. Worth investigating for you - winter is long.

Congrats on your 500th post, LabPet!

Interestingly, I almost went to college in Hawaii. I wonder when it starts getting dark there this time of year.

Thanks. I'll look into it!

I have S.A.D. in reverse...I love the dark, and the cold.

I get depressed in summer when I can't sleep during the day because of the heat and it gets light too early. :(

I used to love the dark and the cold. When I lived in the Northeast, I dreaded Spring and Summer, because it meant longer daylight, heat and brilliant sunlight. Now, while I like the longer hours of sunlight, I still don't like heat, humidity and brilliant sunlight.

The earliest I've seen it dark as night was at around 7, I think. Or was it around 8? And I'm in Canada.

I am the same!

hartzofspace - I'm told that scented candles really help (light + aromatherapy), especially scents such as orange, lemon, bergamont, peppermint. Whatever works well for you.

I used to be like Aridarr. When it's dark and cold, somehow people aren't so snobbish.

I have no problem with darkness, as the night is my favorite time. So bring on the dark.

no real difference in my feelings but where I live summer is only a few hours darkness and winter not a lot of sunshine!

But I do enjoy a bright moonlit night where you can see the moon shadows.

And the Merry Dancers (Northern Lights) are interesting.

Thank you, LabPet. I love the smell of bergamot - it's the first thing I smell when I open a box of Earl Gray tea bags. I will look for these scents to have around the house, now.
