Why is this forum different?

I have posted on three other forums.
On the whole from what I have seen so far - people here are nice - I haven't seen much bullying or abuse.
What is the reason for this? What's different about this forum.
I'm curious!

I think it's more community oriented. People here are more friendly.

I agree. We aren't here to talk about AS, we're here BECAUSE of AS, and we can talk about anything we want, not just AS. Therefore we're a lot more relaxed around here.

Is Wrong Planet quite strictly moderated? Also I notice here people are more inclined to speak out against less than pleasant posts.

Nope. It's not Very strictly moderated. But it's moderated ok.

There's the opportunity to be more loose-lipped than other places and get away with it, but usually the site doesn't NEED strict moderation (until that blue moon time when Atomika returns for a bit).

I'm with tomamil. Were these also with AS or was it a free for all. And if they were about AS, perhaps they tended towards the more curebie side. I've seen many forums about AS that do nothing but constantly rant about the bad stuff.

Yes they were -- they almost make me doubt myself - as though I misunderstand situations. too confusing. Maybe it is because this place is so big - people can't form cliques - allegences (sp)??
quite the same. Maybe this cuts back on bullying type behaviour.

Whatever it is - I feel safer here -- for now.

i agree. i like this forum because its a nice break from all the other forums i visit. i cant be mean all the time, i'll go crazy :P

Oh! Another reason! Although we have over 14,500 members as of this post, there's actually a trackable amount of people on the site of about 30-50 or so, in the way that, even if you've been away for over 4 months like I have, you'll still find the same members posting here (in my case there's the exception of werbert, and ahayes doesn't post here as often as he did because he moved to ZOMG). To me, this gives the site a very laid back feel as you're familiar with that group of peopl, and if you're away for 4 months, you get used to the new frequent posters, in my case Ana54 and Brittany2907 particularly, but it's never too much of a hassle.

I'm not sure, but it's nice. Seems most of the nastiness is relegated to the Politics and Religion forum. If you stay out of there everyone is cool.
