I lived there for 5 years.
We went up originally because my former wife was in the Army.
Once she got out, we stayed for a little bit longer.... thought we'd be up there forever! :(
Had our daughter born up there, moved when she was two.

She has this fondness for Moose... even though she says she can't remember the momma and babies who used to trek through our yard.

We lived in two places North outside of Fairbanks...
to the left off the Steese Hwy and to the right. Haglebarger to the left and Bennett to the right.
I hear there's lots of houses between Fairbanks and Fox now... too bad.

I first worked at a commercial laundry washing 90lb loads of sheets for the pipeline pump stations.

I started going to UAF for various things... drafting/CAD, biology, nursing... I was first diagnosed with ADD/HD at Ft. Wainwright.

I next worked for a friend who ran the Outdoor Recreation programs for Ft. Wainwright. We had some really fun and wild times!

I also worked for the Alaska Fire Service... North Star Crew.

And, I was a horseshoer for most of the time we were there.

We had a german shepherd who would pull my wife around ski-jouring. He loved the snow! He also like to chase Momma moose until she turned around and chased him back! 8O
I used to X-country ski on Birch Hill and at UAF. I loved to snowshoe and get out in the bush.

My first summer there I took a two week trip solo canoe trip from Whitehorse, Y.T. all the way back to Circle, Alaska.

I hunted, took the Alaska Trapper's class, hammered metal with a few of the guys there in Fairbanks, got to know some very interesting folks (Dexter and Lynette from the AIP, Robin & Pat - musicians), and generally had a wonderful life there.

Our daughter wants to go back and I am planning on taking her in the next couple of years.
I'd like to arrange a trip to Alyeska this winter, but I'm not sure if I can. She ski's and I snowboard, but just being up there in the winter is good enough for me!

I really miss the place... I REALLY miss the winters! And this from a boy raised most his life in the deserts of West Texas (El Paso to Austin on down to the Big Bend).

So... who's next? :D

It's going to be me of course :D
Came up for the first time on March 1st of 1990 from Phoenix AZ to Fairbanks, mostly came to see the Northern Lights cause the "Aurora Borealis was the first thing I ever put on my list of stuff I had to do once or see before I died when I went thru my World Book Encyclopedias when I was 6. (Wow that was a loooong sentence) Didnt even own a coat and could really find a warm one to buy in Tucson or Phoenix so decided to wait until I got here. Was supposed to be in Fairbanks for 2 weeks but ended up staying until the middle of August. (only left cause I had to go back to college)
Got a job waiting tables at "The Klondike" in Fairbanks and rented a room from one of the waitresses there. (I looked for her when I came back but shed been killed in a car wreck)
Spent 9 1/2 years telling everyone I was going back and finally got back on the 18th of Dec. of 1999. I hope to not leave ever again.
Maybe vacation but I don't like to fly anymore so I don't see it happening anytime soon. Wish they'd build that bridge to Russia. :D

Not sure, don't really keep up on that stuff in all honesty. Last I heard they were still debating the bridge/ferry from Anchorage to the Mat-Su Valley.

Ohhhh Labpet, where are you? :D
