I am going to San Antonio with my family, reviving an old family tradition.

Me and my parents will probably go up to our sisters for Thanksgiving. Out of curiousity have you seen any wild weather yet in Wichita Falls?

Not yet. It got up to 80 degrees today. It will be unseasonably warm for the next few days.

If anything I'll do what I did last year, I roasted a turkey breast, made some stove top stuffing and
had a little feast all by myself. I did call mom and a few other relatives I'm still in touch with.
This year I'll cook another turkey breast and make some duck and wild mushroom gumbo,
yams with bacon and syrup and a few other goodies..... It's going to be a four day holiday weekend for
me.

I will finally write, maybe complete, my research project about 1-MeIm and carboxylic acids. I think I get 3 whole class days off plus the weekend. I really need to 'catch up' some loose ends with academic obligations.

I guess I never celebrate Thanksgiving. I know some at the Univeristy will but I do not know anyone and mostly Thanksgiving is a family event. Last Thanksgiving, when I was working at a different laboratory, the nice secretary suggested I join her family, but I felt this would be intrusive and I don't know her family. I think she was just being polite.

The weather will be cold outside, I can work inside my nice cozy warm apartment (3rd story) and maybe there will be snowfall! I always make Russian tea around holiday time, I don't know why. I'll make tea and maybe buy something different for dinner, but I don't know what. Not really a priority for me. I could use some sleep! I hate that the public library (not the University Library) is closed for the holiday. I would really like to go to the library on Thanksgiving.

Spicy and a little sweet. It has orange flavor with cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. I always put a cinnamon stick in the teacup. Also great if you have a cold/flu.

My son usually goes with his father, they have a big dinner planned usually every year.

My dad passed away in 1995 a few days just after Thanksgiving...used to be his favorite holiday. He loved turkey.

I usually cook a small turkey breast and some other stuff for me & mom...we sit and remember happy memories and stuff ourselves with pie afterwards.

Is there a recipe or is it a type of tea you buy like Twinings Russian Caravan Tea?

btw, can someone remind me when Thanksgiving is? (not being American I can't remember).

Probably just have dinner with my immediate family. Which is what we do every day.
They dislike parties too. :D

We used to have a traditional thanksgiving feast at my grandmother or aunt's house. The entire day was utter chaos. Try to picture ten or more people with with high intellects and no social skills attempting to get along for an entire day in one small house. I doubt anyone truly, honestly enjoyed it.

I do have a recipe - it's very unsophisticated (don't laugh) but still a favorite. Try it!

RUSSIAN TEA

1 cup orange tang (yes, really)
3/4 cup instant tea
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoon2 ground cloves
dash of nutmeg
cinnamon sticks

Mix ingredients well and store in an airtight container with a few cinnamon sticks - occasionally invert to mix spices (they do settle). To serve: 2 rounded teaspoons Russian Tea per cup of boiling water, or to taste. Serve with cinnamon stick.

And, according to my calendar, Thanksgiving is Thursday, 11.22!

I don't celebrate the holiday though....

This sounds delicious. I love tea. Is this truly Russian, or is this just a name? (Just because, Russia is yet another of my fixations.)
