One woman in the laundromat thought I was a boy when I had really short hair and was wearing male-ish clothes, in grade 12 in Brockville... also that year a girl called me "he" a few times... once in kindergarten when I had short hair and our French teacher was going around saying "Garcon" for each boy, "Fille" for each girl, and when she got to me she said "Garcon." :)

Not in the flesh, but I was mistaken for a woman on the phone.

Tim

Yes, I've occasionally been called "sir". The way I dress is fairly androgynous (jeans and a t-shirt).

I've been mistaken for female a number of times.
I'm not really sure why.

As a kid, I was once in a while. Now I'm never mistaken in physical meetings (long hair, a pretty obviously female body, ect.), but it happens sometimes on the phone (including with my mother). Those who know either my mother or I (who apparently sound similar on the phone (which I don't hear at all, but whatever)) know I'm female (don't know which one I am, but hey, it's progress); those who don't (such as the occasional telemarketer, political call, bank, whatever) tend to struggle with it a few times. There's a definite pause when they're trying to figure out what I am (the last one went, "Is this the...(30 seconds) female of the household?"); sometimes they get it right, sometimes not.

So there I was at a huge costume ball at a prominent Chicago hotel, walking down the promenade dressed to KILL and I noticed another well costumed man come over to me and gushed about my costume and when I spoke to him he stopped dead and apologized and walked away.
He thought I was in drag! and wanted to complement me on my 'looking like a woman' but thought it was inappropropriate because I WAS a woman!

( I had a friend ask him why he walked away so abruptly. The man was in full drag queen regalia.)

Teased many times for having a face of a girl when I was younger (high school); pre-puberty, I was mistaken for female a few times. My voice is deep enough to not be mistaken as female on the phone.

RainSong,

You sound female enough; accents and stuff I guess.

When I was a baby, the butcher that my mum went to would refer to me as a little boy.

All the time. Most people on WP think I'm male.

Apparently, all households must now consist of only one female person.

I've been mistaken for a male throughout my entire life. I specifically chose to grow my hair long at an early age in order to stop people from making the mistake...it didn't work.

I have been called a "gay bastard" by people out in the street. And when I go walking I often hear passers by muttering to each other about my gender ("I swear that's a bloke...") This is probably because I am flat chested and dress like Van Helsing.

I love it. :D I'd hate to think I looked feminine.

Oh yes, and I've been mistaken for a man several times on the internet.

Thanks. I suppose that's part of it, and you know I'm female, so that probably is part of it too. I think some of it depends on when I answer the phone; if I'm tired enough, my voice apparently is deeper than usual (or so says my aunt; I don't notice the difference).

I don't think you look like a female; said children were wrong.

The things they don't tell you. :P I assumed that he wanted the female head of the household (which is my mother), he just kinda worded it wrong.

A few people on the internet have thought I was female before.

Strangely enough, I had the face of a girl as a child, but nobody thought I was one.

One time I cut my hair really short and someone thought I was a boy.
