Aka Seasonal Affective Disorder. I get it bad. The best way I can describe it is when winter rolls around, I get very tired. It's like my body wants to hibernate or something.

When I have nothing better to do, no deadlines or anything, I can sleep 16+ hours a day. I know it's not a good thing, so I should probably get some medication to help feel more awake. Anyone else experience this? :\

Yes...and oh, how I hate the short days and long nights of the Fall season. It is especially bad when you live in a valley like I do.

I don't like taking anti-depressant medications...but, when I start to feel sad and depressed, I try to go to the college library, a
shopping mall or someplace where they have bright, fluorescent lighting that can act as artificial sunlight. It is cheaper than buying those special light boxes they sell for your home.

I have a sort of mild version of SAD. I need some time to adjust to the shorter daylight and cooler temps. The stress of the holidays and the constant reminders of that I don't have a close family or friends and that I'm financially strained doesn't help either. I usually bounce back after New Year's.

I wouldn't say I have any sort of disorder relating to this, but I do tend to get depressed when the sun isn't out. Christmas can often be depressing to me, but for a reason I couldn't really explain.

Those issues hit me around this time of the year, too. I have to fight off severe depression around the holidays.

I wish I knew. The thing is, it only started happening in the last four or five years. I used to love fall and winter before that, and didn't mind the early darkness or the holidays so much.

Depression can have environmental and physiological tiggers. I am sensitive to cold, and even in the summer, if I get too cold (like form air conditioning), especially wheile I'm sleeping, it can trigger my depression. Now that it's colder, I have been extra careful about being sure I'm dressed warmly enough and sleep with enough blankets. I know that sounds weird, but I have poor body awareness as part of my AS - that means I often don't realize I'm too cold.

YES!! !! I hate the cold, I hate the snow, I hate the dark and I would love so much to move out of this climate that tortures my very soul. No snow yet, so the super downer hasn't set in yet. But it will. Always does.

Yes. I've been using a lightbox for a couple of years now, in the autumn/winter and it does help a lot. Before I used to get huge mood crashes in September/October but now just a little dip, but not so debilitating, manageable anyway.
