Who's afraid to hold this bird?

Looks like a tropical parrot. I wouldn't mind holding it, or it perching on my shoulder as they seem to do. The talons might dig a little, but I've had some experience with big birds like that. Now if the thing was maligned, evil bird, then I might not want to let it perch itself on me and gnaw my ear off.

It's a macaw - a type of trtopical parrot. They are highly intelligent and can hurt you if they are irritated or decide for whatever reaon they don't like you. You have to be more wary of that beak than the feet.

I dont normally like parrots or parrot-like birds, but I am not afraid of them. I respect them. I'd be more nervous handling a stork-type bird (large wading birds with long pointed beak defend themselves frfom predators by attacking the eyes with their beak - people who handle them usually where protective googles) or large fightless birds like ostriches or emus. In fact, I've been around a defensive male ostrich - I admit I was quite intimidated. I'm only 5'5" and he was a lot bigger than me.

I've handled raptor type birds before and that's a little unnerving. You don't realize how powerful these birds are until you are that up close and personal.

It's a blue and gold macaw, and I have held it before--- my mom has one. But I wouldn't hold a strange bird without the owner's permission or say-so. Some birds are very picky about who they let handle them, and some are very protective of their owners. One of my parrots ( a conure) won't let ANYONE but me hold her--- she even bites the cats! My other one lets EVERYONE hold him--- he's a lover, not a biter.
Macaws have extremely powerful beaks. They can break up macadamia nuts and make sawdust out of even the toughest wood... but they can also be quite gentle and playful as well.

What about this one?



These greenwing macaws are said to be sweet-tempered enough to be hugged by little kids. Not sure if that's true or not.

Me, I shake a lot ((low potassium does that I think)) so the bird gets nervous and bites me to keep its perch. I've been biten three times and am not going for a fourth!

I have held a tiny little brown bird. It was sitting outside and let me carry it around for a while before flying off.

i carried a newborn bird that had broken it's wing in the highstreet to the vet, i felt very important that day =)

They're all cute.

I've noticed that most parrots have Cockney accents, as well. :O)

I'd prefer to hold one of these.

Hmmm... I dont mind holding my own birds, but anybody elses and im quite leary (aside from a cockateel or parakeet, really any smaller bird that cant draw blood).

The macaw with the green block on his head was really funny to me because I used to put cherios and pellets on my african grey when I was a kid. Not sure if he liked it, but as a kid he tolerated me well and would let me put stuff on him for a few seconds then shake it all off. It was amuzing to me, maby not so much him tho.
