I found an awesome way to make your avatars glow, all you do is invert the colours, for example here
That is it normally
Then, invert the colours and you get this
Invert the colours back, and...
And my X Wing Avatar, can be edited to look like a flashback they show in movies... this is it first
This is it next
Be warned, inverting can make damage to the images, so save it with a different name, and then play around with the other one.
