This springs directly from Kyte's post that was deleted ealier today. LINK--->Kyte's Post

Although I am not a teenager, I am still interested in finding out for our teen members where they can post 'sensitive' questions.

Discussions of a sexual nature, or about illicit drugs, and anything else you might tag on with these topics.

If Kyte's thread was deleted from the Random Forum, then where else here on WP would it be appropriate for a teenager to post such questions?

I was directed just a minute ago to his thread on the Love and Dating Forum, so perhaps that's the place for teens?
(waiting to see how that discussion goes)
I don't suppose the Adolescent Forum would be appropriate for this subject material?
Are teens 'allowed' to post issues like this in the Adult Forum where these sorts of things are discussed by adults?

I am only asking this so our teen members can find a place to open up and ask questions they might not be able to elsewhere in their lives.

I like to think that the adults here can remember how it was when we were all teens.
I certainly know how screwed up my life was because I had no forum to discuss sensitive things that were troubling me.

Personally I'm not offended by the topic, just the language.

I agree about the language, and rather than delete posts I like to see the community join in and explain to the poster why such language would be offensive and inappropriate.

I believe the two of you did that in Kyte's thread that resides in the Love and Dating forum.

From past history on WP though, I do understand there are other people who wish these sorts of topics were never allowed anywhere here.

For those in the middle, so-to-speak, there are probably 'The Right' places and 'The Wrong' places to post such material.
With that in mind, I am hoping more of these people will join in here....

DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN!

also, I hope the moderators will grace us with their presence and chip in here. :D

I really do think there should be a place for teens to discuss things of that nature.

Hmmm, must have skipped the teenage years huh?

just kidding :D

while I would hope everyone has at least one parent who can be so open-minded with their kid(s), the reality is that a place like this is just another avenue for people to venture along in hopes of gaining answers, comfort, and support for the things in life that bring them down, keep them down, or just make them wonder...

I'm not looling to play the parenting role for anyone here.
I am happy to address questions no matter what the age of the petitioner.
I will always try to answer in as appropriate way as possible though.

If it belongs in the adult forum, they should post it in there... it says under the link to the Adolescent Asperger Forum to post it in the adult forum if it's an adult sort of thing...

Thanks, I don't go looking at the Adolescent section (although I did post there just once), so I missed it.

I was under the impression that a teen would get chased out of the Adult section if they started asking questions that made the adults nervous

Here's my candid opinion.

The member you're talking about is an obvious troll so I think this is not a good example. I saw his posts that were removed and there is zero doubt in my mind that he was just out to have a laugh and shock people. I think that real teens are smarter than you're giving them credit for, wsmac. They don't use offensive terms when they have a legitimate question they want answered. Our teen members seem very comfortable posting about their problems and asking for advice here, so I'm just not seeing a problem.

Regarding sexuality, curious teens can (and will) use google or other methods to get their information. This site was never intended to be a sex ed. resource. Even the Adult Asperger Issues forum is supposed to be -only- about sexual issues directly impacted by AS (not for the random sexual stuff that often winds up there). Beyond that, I think it's really not appropriate for us to be condoning the idea of having an area of the site where teens talk explicitly and are joined by adults in those sexual discussions. First off, the line between friendliness and predation in that situation can be blurry. This site is already routinely targeted by sickos seeking to prey on a vulnerable population. Secondly, we simply have no business setting aside a formal area for educating other people's children about sexuality without their parents' permission.

Wow! I didn't know that this site was targeted by sickos!...then again, I guess a lot are these days...

I agree that teens should have parents permission to discuss sexuality issues....BUT, if parents refuse to let their teens learn and they come of legal age to have sex, then they might do it without knowing the right and wrong ways, how to protect yourself etc and could get sick.
Then again, the internet is full of sources that people could get this information from...so I don't think there is a need to have a forum here for it specifically.
[p.s...I am a teen myself]

I would like a place to have a formal discussion about my pot incident, aside from the Adult Forum. Maybe we could have a 'Growing Up' forum?

I'd assumed that the Haven would be an appropriate place. Has Alex said anything about this, in the past?

I don't think so. The Haven is for people who are feeling blue, and need a hug.

I think any adult topic, (drugs, sex, alcohol....) should go in the adult section. I thought the adult section was for adult topics, not just adults. I think any adult topic should go there.

It's supposed to be 18 and up, I believe. That's why the forum description says to PM a mod before posting there.

People have posted in the Haven about drugs quite often.

Who is going to bother to PM a mod ?

I dont think anybody would and theres diffferent age limits in different countrys so it might be more acceptable in other countrys,

Thats no excuse for the offensive posts though,
