Societies, clubs, classes...How did you get involved?

Sometimes I think I just don't have enough of a life! Part of the problem is that my interests are so solitary, nobody sees me pursuing them, and I don't have the opportunity to meet new people through them, etc. Unfortunately it's too late for me to join clubs at my uni (there's a deadline for joining), but I don't know where else to go.

Are you involved in any societies? Take any classes? Where do you start looking?

Well you don't want to join a club that you won't find interesting.

Do you go to church? you can look there. Maybe a community center nearby?

We should start the NAAAP. (National Association for the Advancement of Autistic People).

Find a club you find interesting, and just go. I go to school, and I am in the chess club (whose advisor was quite lazy, as evidenced by the fact that we met three times last year and once this year before he left the school), debate club, and math team.

I go to Taekwondo with my 3 sons. We started Taekwondo after reading Squier's book - he recommended martial arts is good for children with Asperger's. We love it.

I have been belly-dancing for 4 years - it was something I'd been wanting to do for about 15 years - then I saw an advertisement in the paper for classes close to my house.

My sons go to chess club at school. The boys also go to Boys Brigade.

I can't believe they won't let you join any clubs at your university. Can't you at least participate without the recognition of being a formal member? They are preventing their own growth with those restrictions. A church is very nice as the people there will make an effort to care about you and want to include you in their environment no matter what your background.

When I was in highschool, I didn't want to be in the club that I originally chose, so I simply started attending one that I did want. No fuss, no muss.
