Oh. My. Lord. I just saw the pictures and myself and a co-worker nearly crawled out of our skins. I'm so glad I clicked the link! The co-worker kept saying, "But where in the ocean is it?"

Is it terribly odd of me to look at the giant version of that creature and think, "Boy, that thing would make an awesome mount! It just needs a saddle..." [Begins engineering a sea scorpion saddle...]

Because that was exactly my first thought.

Despite the fact that, as we all know, I HATE those things!! !, I think we should make the giant isopod our mascot. After all:
*like many of us, it has a tough exterior protecting its vulnerable interior
*it is strange and anti-social down there in the ocean, but here on WP it is respected and even loved
*it is hated and misunderstood by most of the world (and me) who see it as ugly and frightening, but there are many here who apparently find it quite cuddly
*its very name suggests isolation (okay, isolated feet, but so what?)

All in favor?
