Hmm, I think I made the oath during confirmation and broke it, I didn't try to be the best person or best Christian I could be, at least I don't think I did. I was confused about what being a good person really was and what being a good Christian really was, never mind what person or group said what. EDIT: Actually, I don't think I said "I do," though I think I did in the practise session. I felt uncomfortable.

I wore the shirt in Sparks that said "I promise to share and be a friend", and I liked it... and in Brownies we sang that Girl Guides song "On my honor I will try; there's a duty to be done, and I say aye, there's a reason here and a reason above... my honour is to try and my duty is to love. No one needs to know my name, if I hurt someone then I'm to blame..." I don't know if those count. :) I don't know if I even sang it; I think I felt uncomfortable.

40 years ago, a mysterious masked stranger committed an unthinkable crime in my hometown. He hit the mayor's daughter in the face with a pie.

The night it happened, four men, including my father, swore that they would track down the masked man and avenge the girl, even if it took their entire lives. None of the men would rest until justice was served.

20 years later, my father died. He passed his oath on to me. Since then, I have been on the road, hunting, searching, waiting, and hoping. I've got a pie with that masked stranger's name on it.

The pie is apple.

I tend to break a lot of promises even though I made them in good faith.

oaths are my life

wow - what will power. And what a coincidence! But I ate my pie a long time ago

Just another human failing I suppose. But I will keep trying.

and Ana54, IMHO a good Christian will treat other people the way you would like them to treat you (do unto others ...). That's all.

There are too many promises I don't keep. But later on I realize that some are not worth keeping. I used to be a Christian and was baptized. But now I completely reject Christianity.

I never make promises. Well, I promised mum I'll never bring injured birds home again.

The masked stranger pied your father's mayor's daughter, too?

It's time to pay the piper. With pie.
