Was my friend lying?

Today I phoned Me and My Brothers friend, who lives just a few doors away from us to see if I could go round his house, basically this is what happened:
Me:"Can I come round?"
Friend:"No sorry I... I'm waiting for something"
Me:"What?"
Friend:"Well... I... I don't know"
Me:"OK... Will I be able to come round later?"
Friend:"If you can I'll call you"

My brother has been going round his house quite a bit more than me lately, and whenever our friend rings us, he always asks for my Brother, to invite him to come round.

Was he lying because he doesn't like me?

It truly sounds to me like he was lieing. It doesn't nessecarily mean he doesn't like you, he could've just wanted to be left alone...

I mean, how can you be waiting for something and not know what you are waiting for?
