Do you think you can survive without people?

If everyone somehow died off and you were the only one left, do you think you'd survive on your own?

There be no electricity, no more food, no transportation nothing. You be on your own.

People keep the electricity running, food would rot in stores without it and rodants take over, food would rot a lot quicker because the refrigerators aren't running. There be no one to keep your car maintained and your house unless you know how to do all of it; roofing plumbing, etc. and there be no more items left in stores to keep your home maintained and how will you bring it back to your house without a car. It also uses electricity to pump gas into your car so your car would eventually run out of gas and bam you can't use it anymore. You'd have to walk everywhere to get to places which be pretty hard.

I don't think I would survive because I have never lived the old way like people did before there were cars and electricity and trains and all. There be no more food for me, I wouldn't be able to keep warm, there be no clean water for me because there are no wells in the city. How would I keep clean, keep my clothes cleaned too and eventually my apartment would fall apart but maybe not in my lifetime because I'd already be dead from lack of food and warmth. Clean clothes keep you warm, when they get dirty, they don't do you any good, same as your body being dirty. I don't know how that works.

I got this from Life After people on the history channel.

I'd turn into a gollum sort of creature
I would go rather crazy-talk to animals, etc
make things work
it wouldn't be a happy like

My hero is Les Stroud of survivorman, I have learned much from him. I only wish I could survive for 7 days in the wilderness with only a knife. I can do alright for a few days, but I dont think I could hack it much longer. The only problem I would have is catching food. Assuming everyone was gone on Earth and I woke up at my house, I could not travel far cause their was no gas, I would walk into everyone elses houses looking for whatever food I could find and I really think I would be alright for a while. I would, and this is emabrrasing, but for someone who should have some survival skills I do not know how to fish and have never hunted. These skills are vital to survival in the wilderness, I dont even have those basic skills. I can do everything else, I know how to obtain fresh water, I know how to build shelter, I know how to build fire many different ways, its catching the food that would be most challenging, everything else would be much easier.

I admit I love spinning fantasies about being the only survivor (or maybe only with one person more to make my life more interesting) in the world where all people suddenly and mysteriously disappeared but to tell the truth what could I do in case of serious illness without doctors and hospitals?

If I had a power to create my private dimensions on my own I'd create such a world instantly and start to spend there a lot of time but if such a catastrophy would take place just now I'd be scared. Everybody would be. I got used to a cosy life where all my needs are satisfied while now I'd be forced to take care of myself. For some time it would be a good test that could check my ability to survive but later I'd miss the civilisation.

Do you know any books that touch this issue? Now I recall King's "The Stand" and Jean Ure's "Plague". Do you know any others?

That's a really freaky thought. I definitely wouldn't make it.

I'd kill myself. No electricity = no video games.

As much as I sometimes rant about dealing with people, I need people in my life.

No. I'm not really a good survivalist.

I'd start my own rat farm and breed three types of rats. Male Roddys, Female Ritas and Unisex Sids.

I'd last for a while, but I have next to zero survival skills and I would get terribly lonely and depressed after a few months. Although by then, maybe I'd get used to it and forget what it was like to have people around...??

It's doubtful I would make it.

Well, if everything else being equal, you could live for awhile just on canned goods...;) it would get boring, but there's always books. Fire wouldn't be too much of a problem; wild animals, on the other hand...;)

Of course, once you're dead, that's it for the species, but in the long run, we're all dead...;)

I hope to achieve immortality by not dying - Woody Allen...;)

I have been to the point where I was the only people, save for 2 under 2.

It was not a pretty picture.

I'd be alright. I'd take over someones farmhouse. Learn to kill. Pilfer gas for the generator-rob everybodys media collections. Jive with the animals.

No problem.
