I used to own one that I got back in February 2007, but it got stolen. :(

As for how I got the Wii in the first place, I basically just went to the same local department store every day, and called them on the phone regularly to see if they had stock (typically call in the morning, stop in on the way home from school). One day I walked in and there was 1 Wii there...the woman at the counter was an older woman and noticed that the box was dented, and asked me if I wanted to wait for more to come in because it might have been dropped. Riiiiight. Long story short, I took the thing home for about $300.

I have a Gamecube, and my brother has a Wii. There is quite a significant demand for it.

My sister had troubles getting one, but luckily we managed to get to HMV when there were enough in stock, after much waiting. I don't know why they're so outrageously popular. Perhaps for appealing to more people who do not normally use traditional consoles.

They appear in my hometown once in a blue moon and then get swiped within about three seconds. At this point my Gamecube is my only gaming machine.

Yes,it's got people from all the user groups [hardcore, casual and previously non gamer] wanting one, whereas the other consoles are more specific with who are being designed for.
It's nintendos fault for not making enough of them,it's good to see a nintendo console doing well, especially after the trouble with the gamecube and nintendo 64.

Am only have one next gen console [psp] and haven't used it in a long time, because of the lack of good games, but am getting halo 3 limited edition xbox 360 next week [army green colour case, with orange parts, and design etched into it].

I see Wiis all the time at the stores here in Indy. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a store say they were sold out of them. However, I can't say the same thing about XBox 360 here.

http://www.xpbargains.com/wii_locator.php

Amazon had them around Christmas at a pretty good price.

ToysRus is showing the bundle for $499.93 right now.

I have a Wii!

Camped out for 8 hours on launch day to get it.

At the time I thought I was crazy... in retrospect having a Wii since launch combined with all those who still don't have a Wii... I don't regret my decision at all.

I think the best bet is to camp for 2 hours or so, at Toys R' Us, Best Buy... Target... wherever. They often guaranty systems on Sundays. You may not have to wait that long either, they'll hand out tickets and then you can come home and show up 30mins before the store opens.
