Streetwise?

Today, as I was walking home past a school, I overheard a woman say to another "oh, he is very streetwise!"

What exactly is this and how does one become so?

Does it mean that an individual is good finding their way around?

It basically means knowing how to survive in a tough part of town without getting your head kicked in for doing/saying the wrong thing and things like that.

Street wise is the same as street savvy.
