You know, they tell you to brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, floss and maybe gargle with mouthwash. It's a scam I tells ya! Why? Because you go to the dentist's office, sit in their char and they have all these fancy gadgets and gizmos that'll give you the best cleaning you've ever had or at least that you could do yourself. And to top it off, they'll tell you that you've got two cavities and a touch of gingivitis.

Ok, give me the tools and special stuff that they use to clean my teeth and I'll come back in 6 months with a gleaming smile and he won't find so much as a microbe in my mouth. Instead, I'm told to use a $3 piece of acrylic and vinyl and they want me to brush with poison (fluoride) and injure my gums by sticking wax-coated fishing line in there and then to burn my mouth with 150 proof denatured alcohol.

Why do visits to the dentist's office cost so much for a cleaning or for a filling? They have the tools and stuff already. They don't need to go out and buy more. Just wash them and go on to the next patient - for $50 tops! Oh and you know what's in amalgam fillings? Mercury! Another POISON!

I hate dentists. I haven't gone to one for ages.

I don't even brush my teeth that often.

To me, you should only brush them when the yucky stuff is noticable. I only brush my teeth once a week. And I think I have gingavitis, 'cause my gums bleed when I brush my teeth. But I don't care one bit.

I don't think regular dentist visits are truly essential to health in life, but I go anyway. I mean, the way I see it, if I think something's funny about my teeth, I go in. Other than that, I brush twice a day.

I use an oral irrigator instead of floss and Act 3 mouthwash instead of alcohol-based mouthwash.

Is there really mouthwash with alcohol in it?

Most mouthwashes have alcohol in them, that's why they suggest you don't swallow it, I imagine.

like I said, it's denatured alcohol to keep the drunks from buying it and getting well, drunk.

I do not brush my teeth. ever. unless my mouth doesn't feel clean and it bothers me.
Or if I have a dentist appointment the following day.

When I go to the dentist, he says my teeth are great.

I don't think dentists are scam artists. They say to brush your teeth twice a day for a reason. I brush twice a day, use mouthwash and go to the dentist regularly. I have NO fillings because I take care of my teeth and stay away from extra sugary foods.
I am thankful that I have teeth and will look after them so I don't loose them when I am older!

You will when the horrible agony of toothache kicks in. I’d rather someone named Sebastian slash his name into my back with a razorblade than suffer some of my worse toothaches again.

Remember Tom Hanks had to remove his tooth with an ice skate blade in Cast Away?

Yeah...

next time you're stranded on a tropical island, you'll have wished you'd brushed your teeth more.

And that fuzzy feeling on your teeth? That's the cavity creeps.

Ever try to kiss a girl (or a guy - or either of you swing that way  ) without having brushed your teeth? I can't think of a faster way to get rejected than having bad breath and fuzzy teeth.

Ive just had a big amalgum filling done and it hurts so much- every time my teeth touch I get a shock like when you chew on metal by mistake. the dentist says the sensitivity is temporary but if it carries on Im going to ask them to pull the tooth out as its unbareable. i hate the dentist and now i will floss religiously to avoid any more work.

Dentists are scam artists. Go to a dentist and what do they do, (s)he scraps off the hard protective shell around your teeth! What's wrong with tartar? Granted it's not very sightly, but I have yet to hear why it's bad. Or they want you to have a "deep cleaning". A medical professional feels it's a good idea to separate your gums from your teeth?? Whatever they clean out will be back within 12 hours! It's well known the (alcohol) mouth-washes are counter-productive, fairly well known that fluoride is counter-productive with regards to tooth strength, and fairly well known that even brushing is counter-productive (as pointed out by xyzyxx). But, once you start brushing as a child, you're pretty much locked in.

Dentists scare me.

When I was a child, it would take near inhuman effort to sit still while the dentist drilled. Talk about noise!

I once turned my head and got my lip cut.
