Should suicidal prisoners be "watched"? poll

I'm talking serial killers, child sex offenders, rapists, the real SCUM of the Earth Like Ian Huntley, Rose West and the latest Steve Wright. Why, if they want to kill themselves should they be stopped? The serve no purpose to society anymore, as soon as they are inprisoned for the rest of their lives all they are is a waste of tax payer's money, if they want to die should they really be stopped?

I think everyone has a right to life...regardless of what they have or have not done. If a serial killer/rapist etc is suicidal, sure, they should be watched. Forget about what they did, are they human....answer = YES!
A lot can be learned from studying a serial killers mind...and yes, it can be useful to catch further serial criminals. Thats another reason why in my opinion, they should be watched.

I think modern technology and data recording are too advanced to need to keep these people alive to learn from, I really don't think we can gain that much insight from them anymore, the Steve Wright case even brought up the subject of bringing back the death sentance over here, I am nether for that or against it, it has a good argument, but I really do not think millions of pounds should be wasted making sure these people stay alive when it could be better spent preventing crimes like this in the first place.

If some prisoner is a serial killer, and he is suicidal, then why don't they just let nature take its course? The world would be a better place without them, and the government is wasting their money keeping these idiots alive by feeding them when these idiots don't even want to live.

It seems that everyone has a right to live, yet no one has a right to die at their will.

And when I start working, I would prefer if my tax money was spent feeding children who are starving to death in Africa, than feeding these serial killers.

No. They deserve death, and while I don't like the idea that it is on their terms, at least the world is rid of them.

Not everyone has a right to life, in my book. If you rape, molest, or murder, you have actively forfeited that right.

Living on isn't always preferable to being allowed to die.

Don't just let them kill themselves but leave a length of rope in the cell and a hook in the ceiling to tie it to. Have at it!

I think euthanasia on humans should be legalized. But, I guess it's a harsh opinion.

there's law, and there's justice. Justice would be to let Mother Nature cull them from the population. But the law says 'life', then they're legally bound to make sure they live. If they manage to kill themselves anyways, then they're legally liable themselves (the prisons, and the justice system) for action. You'd be surprised how much of business is based on 'not getting sued'. But I've always remarked that we do lawyers the same way Indians do astrologers. It'd be interesting to see which of us is getting their money's worth...

Personally, I think they should be kept from suicide, and the worst ones (in regards to their criminal acts) given the most painful capital punishment.

I notice a few of you have mentioned the highly volatile subject of capital punishment, aka the death sentence. When I was watching the coverage of the trial of Steve Wright on the tv, family of his victims openly said in press conferences that they felt the death penalty should be brought back in the UK and he should face it. While I feel it would not deter "petty" offenders, it might act as a SMALL deterant to killers, but alot of the time their mindset is unafraid of even death, and we have maniacs who are prepaired to blow themselves up, set themselves alight and kill themselves, allsorts of crap all inthe name of "god" so I don't think it would be a good deterant to terror type crime. The other thing that scares me a bit about capital punishment is the 1% chance that innocent people could land up dying due to miscarages of justice. A system where the criminal has a time period of lets say, 2 years to prove that they are innocent of the accused crime, and if within that time some evidence comes up and gets them off then they don't die, if the crime can be proven to have been perpetraited by them in this time, then they go ahead and die. This country gives scum too many "Human Rights" and lets down those who are really having theirs violated, like it's my human right to walk down a street in whatever clothes, shoes, hairstyle or whatever I choose without the fear of being attacked and killed for it, but it often swings the way of the criminal when it comes to having to defend yourself from them. There have been so many motiveless killings in this country last year and the little of this year there has been. One was Sophie Lancaster, kicked to death for being "Goth", and a dad of 3 who was also kicked to death for protecting his wife's car from vandals, there is NO motive fro the senceless violence anymore, and right now I am ashamed of my country and nationality. We send our soldiers out to war zones, many die fighting for our country, and the governemt pays the people back by allowing feral "children" to commit murder. I think these senceless killings should be classed as a new crime, they are nether really murder or manslaugter, they are cold blooded, unplanned and evil, and yes for the record, these people should die, not quickly in the electric chair or by hanging, but by a bunch of big hard men with nothing but feet and fists, make them die as their victims did, it sounds nasty, but we really should be thinking about reversing the fear.

Those crimes should not be left unpunished. Suicide is their easy way out. Yes, they should be watched. Besides, it is not known for sure if they are guilty of the crime.

In the US there have been several cases of people that were in jail and under charges while the matter was investigated ... all because the victim or witness identified them and pointed them out... and it turned out they were innocent (DNA testing).

But they killed themselves in jail. Some just cant handle the pressure and humiliation of the charges and the incarceration.


If they are proven 100% guilty with no doubt in the evidence.. then hell.. chain them, put them to work till they drop and then dissect them for study. They forfeited their human rights the moment they killed/raped that other person. Some things just cant be treated in a politically correct manner.

Capital punishment is an immoral idea in the systems of justices as corrupt as they are now.

I people want to kill themselves and no one's willing to talk them out of it there really isn't any way of stopping them is there? Especially people like serial killers and rapists who have already broken any kind of morals they might have had to restrain themselves from the evils of this world. We shouldn't be helping people kill themselves either though because that is helping them murder themselves which would make the helpers accomplices to murder.
