I got an idea from PPR for a thread. From this,

That pretty much would be part of transhumanistic philosophy. What I really don't get is "why colonize Mars?" other than a publicity stunt it wont prove much. Go ahead though, move from one (according to some) soon-to-be-dead planet to an already-dead planet. If we ever find a habitable planet it will probably be so many light years out of our reach to be impractical to go there.

Colonizing Mars would be a first step in colonizing the rest of the solar system, which is rich in resources to exploit once we have the technology. Colonizing other worlds also offers a new source of cultural and societal diversity to off-set the increasing degree of cultural homogenization on earth. Colonies would also give utopian types, from Marxists to Libertarians to Anarchists to religious communities the chance to try out their ideas so people can see if their ideas have merit of are just unworkable BS.

I think we should claim planets and celestial bodies for ourselves or groups to which we belong.

I claim Earth for Christianity!

Nico, you stole mine. Alright I claim Mars since it almost looks there could be life on it. In the past, there was a scare by Orson Welles that there were ppl from Mars attacking us. It was just a story he was doing, but when ppl turned it on, they thought it was a news broadcast. A lot of hysteria went on.

How many small moons could I have in exchange for giving up my planet rights? I mean, ya know, I'll want a change of pace and change of scene once in a while, and also the ability to get in my spaceship and fly to my other properties for vacations. (I believe in diversifying whenever possible.)

I could even leave certain animals on each moon as pets. I could have the parrot moon, the dog moon, and the horse moon, and then just the "me" moon, so that I can be alone as the Aspie that I am.

I'll claim Gallifrey if I can't have at least five small moons. Tardises included, please. 8)

Or actually, give me the "Earth, Mark II" from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

HA! How about that? I get an Earth that's BRAND NEW, baby! All environmental and political problems gone!

8) 8) 8) 8)
