First off, this is not a contest, it's a survey. Indeed, my favorite song is neither old nor new, in terms of the full scope of music history.
It's "The Easy Winners" by Scott Joplin, copyrighted Oct 10, 1901.

It's hard to name a favorite song, because it can depend on my mood and on the period of my life. On average most of the time I'd say 'Northern Sky' by Nick Drake so I went for 20-40 years old. A lot of other strong contenders are also from this period, so it's a good option anyway.

Interesting: the oldest song contending for the position of favorite for me is part of the Winterreise by Schubert (almost 200 years old).

I don't really have a favorite, but I like "Watching the Wheels" by John Lennon. I feel I can relate to that song.

Hey what is the oldest know song?

That's an interesting question. I'd love to have someone give us the answer, or at least some good candidates for "oldest known song in the world."

I allways have different favorite songs. But I remembered this song earlyer today and I havn't listened to it in such a long time. The Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice. I think it's such a pretty song! I also like They by Jem, and als0 Mad World by Gary Jules and also Let Go by Frou Frou. I have a lot of favorite songs depending on my mood!! ^-^ but I can safely say that all of my songs are atleast 10 years to current.

I wonder if it is any good, it must have been good if it was recorded to paper. Well it would have been good in it's day. Someone on the poll said their favorite song was over 500 years old, maybe it was that one.

Can anybody give a link to "sumer is sumin" I really want to listen to it. But can't be bothered doing a search for it, will do a search tonight if nobody provides a link. Errr need to do something with the day.

Well I like a lot of different music. The oldest one I listen to is now probably 100 years old. It's Paul Whiteman and his tunes from the early 20s. The 2 I like are Whispering and Happy Feet.

My favourite song at the moment is 'Miss World' by Hole. It was released in 1994, making it 14 years old.

I have several favorite songs... there are too many to list here! :D I have a 'soft spot' for the 70's, though. My current favorite song is "Always and Forever" by Heatwave. It was popular in 1977 or 1978, during the disco era. I'm sure I'll have a new 'favorite song' by the end of the week!!

I have a confession to make. I like "Heart of Glass", by Blondie.

(Wow, I made that dramatic, didn't I?)

My favorite is "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets, from the 1950s.

I also like a lot of 1960s music, particularly the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.

I found this song for the oldest song

http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2006/12/t ... _song.html

it's 3400 years old from the Syrian city if Ugarit.

There is a midi file so you can listen to it. It doesn't have a name so maybe it doesn't count.
