Here in NZ there is an event held where people can voluntarily not eat, speak, or use technology for 40 hours. You get people to sponser you for doing this and if you complete it, the money that you fundraise goes to World Vision, which is an organization that helps people in less fortunate countries.
I'm not sure if people do this in any other countries so I am asking here if it's known about/done in anyone elses home country?

I am going to not eat for 40 hours. So far I have $40 in fundraising money but my goal is $200. I have until the 22nd of May to fundraise and then will start not eating on the 23rd until the 25th of May.

For anyone who doesn't know what World Vision is all about, if you want to learn more here is a link to their website: http://www.wvi.org/wvi/wviweb.nsf

I'd definitely pass out if I had to do that.

You are allowed to drink water, just juice and eat as many barely sugars as you want. It's taking precautions. When you think about it, two days without food isn't even that much. Besides, if your like me and would spend most of the time sleeping, time would go by a lot quicker.

Not eating or speaking for 40 hours I could just about manage but to go without my technology?! !

Seriously though it's a good idea, it makes people more aware that not everyone has enough food or the luxury of technology. And plus it helps the less fortunate.

I have hypoglycemia. It's risky enough for me to even go just one day without eating. Heck, half a day sometimes.

Ohhh ok. Well it says on the website somewhere that if you have hypoglycemia then do not attempt to do it. I think thats why there are other things you can do such as the no technology or no talking for 40 hours.

Hmm... No talking would be too tough for me, but I could probably do the no technology. 8)

We have a 30 hour famine (not 40; 30) in Canada. That's interesting; and it's around this time of year too.

I did a thirty hour one, but it was only not to eat. I drank so much water that I wasn't even hungary :P
I just kept myself busy and thought about the children who have to live like this all the time. It's eye opening! (though I was extremely numb at the time because of my depression, which sucked)

How is not eating going to make the world a better place?

People give you donations of money to go without food. These donations go to world vision which helps build schools, wells, medical clinics and provide food and clothing etc to the less fortunate.
